Play it today to rub Adelaideโ€™s nose in their own filth..and show our support for the cause of equality and respect. Might be a great idea.

It's common human decency and respect for others.

Has not Australia always prided itself on the maxim of a fair go for everybody?

FFS.

Imaging jumping on the internet to anonymously tell a 20 year old Indigenous AFL footballer they need to 'toughen up a bit' in the face of the racism they've faced all their life.

Pathetic comment and it's sad that you will never have the self awareness to even think about what you said.

There are two things that Iโ€™d like to sayย about that comment.

The use of โ€˜Political Correctnessโ€™ย is one of the biggest misnomers in public discourse today, and has been bastardized from what it started off as.

Initially, it was a means to make language more inclusive, and to take the implicit bias out of certain terms. For example, โ€˜chairmanโ€™ became โ€˜chairpersonโ€™ and โ€˜air stewardessโ€™ย became โ€˜flight attendantโ€™. Fairly banal stuff really.

It has been unfortunatelyย conflated with what now passesย as โ€˜progressiveโ€™ politics, which in turn has been conflated with any type of attemptsย to achieve equity, inclusivity or fairness. Previously, these attempts were made by both sides of politics, based on a mutually held acknowledgment of what our shared challenges were. The only difference was that both sides differed on how we solved said challenges.

Alas,ย for some, the issue isย no longer the approach taken, but whether the problem as it is described isย as stated. Or if it is as described, whether it really is that big a problem. Or,ย if one is particularly despicable, itโ€™sย secretly approvingย of the injustice,ย but engagingย in sophistry and obfuscation to make reality unrecognizable.ย

In short: pure gaslighting. Something that has been making regular appearances in these threads. Iโ€™m reading it here as we speak.

Secondly, politics touches our lives regardless of whether we like it or not. As it has beenย said elsewhere, the โ€˜personal is politicalโ€™ because our immediate environmentย is partially determined by the political zeitgeist we live in. Partisanship (one party/ideologyย competing to beat the other)ย is another matter, but the idea that a society can be completely detached from the political context (the emergence of issues/obstacles/challenges and discussion as to how to handle/discuss them)ย it exists in is rocky at best.

The better question to be asked is if so called PC politics (as described earlier) shouldnโ€™t exist in sports period, shouldnโ€™t establishment politics either?

I wholeheartedly support the ANZAC day matches as I understand troops get sent where their governments send them, and that one can firmlyย disapprove of aย mission but not the person dispatched. However,ย I wonder how the โ€˜keep PC politics out of sportโ€™ crowd would react should someone assert that ANZAC Day football is a celebration of colonialism, militarism, xenophobia and jingoism,ย and these values are partisan, right wing and unacceptable in a multicultural and tolerant society? I am merely playing devilโ€™s advocate here, but judging what happened to Yassmin Abdel-Magied, Iโ€™m guessing their reaction would not be so restrained.ย

To me,ย those who make theย call toย โ€˜keepย PC out of sportsโ€™ย are happy ifย values are expressed throughย sports,ย so long as itโ€™s their own values.

P.S.ย That said, there were probably a few other reasons the reactionary media complex and their assorted troglodytes and acolytes went after Yassminย with as much venom as they did. We all know thoseย reasons. Bear that in mind in regards to the treatment Kozzie got on SNS.

I reckon we should use the back of this year's indigenous jumper (without the player names) as the back of our regular jumper. Looks great, doesn't impact on the front design, and would make us the first side (?) to have a permanent indigenous presence on the jumper.

I would rather see the AFL have the red,ย black and yellow somehow incorporated in the design of all club guernseys; perhaps as a border around the bottom?

I understand your desire to enjoy the game in the vacuum of your moral sanctity. However, seeing you feel the need to attempt to trump a perfectly reasonable discussion on how best the show support for one of our own players with illiberal ideology, Iโ€™d like to take the opportunity to call out your cynical use of the term political correctness as a fig-leaf of naked prejudice and a smoke screen for regressivism.
To demonise the term,ย is not a passive cry for freedom of speech or political thought, but a means of suppression for those who care to think outside their own bubble and more specifically those who face discrimination on a consistent basis.ย

The antonym of political correctness is political incorrectness, a concept that one who usually writes in an intelligent and well meaning way,ย Iโ€™m sure sees as an oversight.ย

You can have your view but don't misrepresent what I say. You sound like the MIss Universe pageant where they all wish for world peace.

Great sentiment but real life is tougher than that.ย  I happen to think resilience is also a big part of this. Its not going away sadly.

We have to teach him to deal with this as well as do everything we can to call it out.

You're welcome to rock up to the club on Monday and offer to teach Kozzy how to deal with racism.

Pathetic comments from you that show your lack of understanding of the subject. Rather than dig in and make it worse you should step back from the keyboard and have a proper think about what you're saying. No one has 'misrepresented' it.

The 2020 one would barely impact the aesthetic at all, and can make a permanent statement. Designed by Nev. Add new boys as they come. Someone should email the club. Or 2019. We've definitely won the indigenous guernsey premiership. ย

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasnโ€™t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals. ย

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • AFLW: 2025 Season Preview

Ten seasons. Eighteen teams. With the young talent pathway finally fully connected, Womenโ€™s Australian Rules football is building momentum and Season 2025 promises to be the best yet. In advance of Season 10, the AFL leadership has engaged in candid discussions with all clubs regarding strategies to boost attendance and expand fan bases. Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the womenโ€™s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
