Yep. This one put my skills to the test. I've seen database corruption before but never to the point where the database engine won't run at all. Very happy I got it all back online with no loss of data - wasn't feeling very optimistic about it when I went to bed at 3am!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Re: what @Deeoldfartsaid - I'm an interstate member too whose lifeline to the MFC is this site. I'd be lost without it.

Did you find out what the root cause was? If not, and you have audit logs available, I'd be happy to look over them for you guys

I remember working in Taiwan on a mobile phone network, and a software error caused a database reload on the switch I was working on, taking out one million of their customers services.

I didn’t really understand what was being said (in Chinese) but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t nice!

Thanks for all the hard work guys!

Thank God over the last two years my daily Demonland fix has helped to keep my sanity.

Me to old Dee couldn’t survive without my daily fix on Demonland, it’s a great gauge on how we are all feeling. Thanks Nasher.!!

I assumed it was the umpires, in cahoots with the Russians, trying to take down MFC in whatever way they can.

:Your presumptions are remarkably accurate, so often, MR. It was the Russians with a selected 75% of AFL umpires acting as translators to ensure that Footiscry, Geelong and Collingwood were not affected.

Just curious. Do you have many readers only that are members or contribute $ in another way?

Thanks for all your efforts

The majority of people that visit Demonland are not Demonland members and have never signed up an account and I guess are people who just want to read about what people are saying or get information in regards to draft picks, trades or preseason training etc.

Just under 6000 people have signed up an account over the 16 years and probably only a small percentage of those are active posters. Posters come and go. Some post a lot and others more infrequently and some once or only a handful of times.

But yeah most users of the site are people who just want to read what others are saying like you might a newsletter or newspaper but don't feel the need to comment which is totally fine and just as much what the site is there for. All users are welcome whether they read or post.

Must be my dirty mind but I’m a bit disturbed by your post

While DL was down I had no choice but to interact with the fam.
They seem like nice people. 😃

Same! 😂 At the beginning of every season the fam say to me, “seeya in early October!” My sons routinely accuse me of loving the Dees more than I love them. Which is ridiculous. I love them equally. 😉

A while ago, middle son said, “Mum, if Max Gawn and I were both unconscious in a burning building, and you could only save one of us, what would you do?”

I said, “Hmmm, well, while piggybacking Maxy out I’d use my free hand to call 000 for help for you.”

Yeah nah, they’ve sorta got a point. 😬

Thanks, appreciate the offer. Root cause was an unplanned outage of the host VM, which lead to the MySQL database failing disgracefully when our server went off. Got some work to do over the weekend to move the tables over to the storage engine that is a little more resilient to failure.

I think this is  essentially the same plot as a Thomas the Tank Engine story but written in a more cryptic way.

I comprehend around about, approximately, pretty much, effectively, essentially NONE of this, but just wanted to be added to the ever-growing list of DL-ers thanking you. So, thank you!!!

I just make the site pretty, wrangle content and attempt to get people to play nice. Nasher keeps the hamsters running on the wheel.

This alone must be a full-time job! 😁

Am in the position of having to split my time between NSW and Vic ( when you can actually travel ). Stuck in NSW at the moment, fortunately regional. Lockdowns seem to be following me around. This site is such a lifeline when in NSW, thanks so much.

I thought this thread was talking about the dees and our fortunes.

Did demonland crash?

I didn't realize. At all.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
