I hope those numbers are temperatures and not cases of Covid in the community in northern NSW

Tee hee. No cases here in months and months. Hopefully Sydneysiders will stay away!

That's what's closed the borders.

Golf/surf should be delightful on the weekend.

Much excitement for Bowey.

They may prefer to do the right thing by their families. Personally, I wouldn't blame them.

Is this a joke?

1 week away from family for 2 must win games, to get a spot in the top 4!  Yes, I am aware of the strain from new-borns, but it’s 1 week, not 6 months.

the world has become soft!

It would clearly be more than 1 week given the time between games, traveling, quarantine periods and potential for worse.

Nothing 'soft' about putting your family ahead of your job.

Even if 2 weeks, same view.

If it was to do with being there for the birth, sure that takes priority. But it’s not.

if the team was bottom 4, and not much to play for, then sure.

Opportunities like this year, don’t come around all that often - who knows it may be the best opportunity both players have for a flag.

So who’s out for Bowser?

Rivers or Jordon?

Rivers would be the more like for like option you'd think.

Hopefully the little fella can bring some spark and enthusiasm into the side too.

There is a spot for the taking, leading into a finals campaign, if he wants it

Probably , but rivers does play pretty tall at 188cm . We do have good arialists down back though so should be ok in that area

Just a quick glance at Boweys impressive numbers at VFL level.

Hibberd?

Maybe. But it would leave us a bit light for a lock down defender you'd think.

Bowey is a beautiful kick, so i'm loving that aspect of the selection. And at Casey he has been kicking out and playing a a similar role to Salem. But surely they are not moving Salem from HB, so he is not playing that role

Rivers might be totally gassed - he looks like it. But you'd think they have him in the finals best 22 team.

Can't think of one off the top of my head but i wonder if is there a scenario where harmes comes out?

Bowey would be a better match up for Rankine than Hibbo

I'm not sure we call Hibberda lockdown defender after the Dogs game tho, and he's been very fumbly below his knees the last month.

Maybe Salem is still carrying a niggle and they're giving him a week's rest before a solid block of games into the finals?

Certainly wouldn't be surprised.

True.

But rankin has done sfa lately, so probably doesn't need a lock down opponent.

And as I understand bowey has not done any lock down defending at Casey and was a mid as a junior.

Has been playing clearly sore for a while, and apparently has had a very very light week on the track - Which could either mean he won't get up or they're just managing him towards the game.

Agree on both points.

He's only really done a lockdown job on powerful medium forwards like papley.

Particularly if he replaces a poor kick.

Good time to come into the side, that's for sure

Is Bowey a confirmed 'in' or are we just relying on the prognostications of Jay Clark? That's not to say Clark is wrong, but before getting too excited I'd like confirmation first.

I think it's a good idea to get some games into the "next best" after the starting 22. We may need them in September and I would rather have them with some experience of the senior team game rather than coming in cold.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
