    question for the crew: last time we had a significant gap between games (10 days between the bears win and the queens birthday loss) we seemed to come out 'flat' from the get go - do you think that the thursday evening til saturday twilight (9 days) poses a threat to our ability to start strongly?

    Didn't see this until well after the show. You should have jumped in the chat room to ask.

    My answer: It's a strong possibility. I'm worried.

    I think your list  is a bit harsh on Dean Chiron who  was always a trier, and who was particularly good at stopping John Platten which, if I recall correctly, is why Brereton ran straight through him in the 1988 grand final, in order to prevent him from doing his usual excellent stopping job.

    Off topic but I really enjoyed the Gus and Gawny/ Sauce cast.

    O. Baker's story about his mom was incredibly sad and made me tear up. 

    I hope his footy career takes of and goes gangbusters.

    Didn't play in the 88 GF! Did he club him at some point during the '87 PF? There are a couple of small changes I'd make on second thoughts but he only played 17 games so can't justify having him much higher than mid-table.

    @whatwhat say what - I was a Collins fan, and thought it was BS that he didn't get another go after leaving us, but he did really only play half a really good season for us.

    Former St Kilda player that crossed to the Dees in 1995 and played against the Dogs at Optus Oval and West Coast at the WACA in rounds 4 and 5 of 1995. Alas we lost both games.

    Once you get past Super's say top 25 - 30 then it is diminishing returns in terms of contribution to the demon cause.

    It's a reminder though of how much more movement between teams there was back in the 70s and eigthies.

    I hate to say it, given his talent, but i would Harley Bennell at the bottom of that list just about. 

    And for me thee is one glaring omission, a player i have in my top 10, almost top 5.

    The 1982 Bluey winner, Steven Icke.

    Awesome for the dees. Such a competitor and never left anything out there. My favorite type of player.  

    As primarily a center half back at the dees, in a period where Templeton was the protoype build for a CHF, played out of weight division every game.

    He kicked 13 goals in 1983 so must have played forward that year a bit (something i had forgotten - thanks demonwiki. I do remember him being a forward at the Roos) and polled 12 Brownlow votes.

    That year he also came third in the bluey behind Alan Johnson (one of all time fav dees) and Robbie.

    I am really enjoying the podcast this season - helps when we are winning. While I am with Andy on the MFCSS, I appreciate the work that he, BinMan and George put into the analysis of the matches - helps understand what’s going on. The TV commentators are hopeless, except for Jimmy Bartel, Daisy and recently Leppa. The Demons definitely have a process/system which is founded  on pressure acts, and if we are “on” the system works! Thanks again

    Just realised the list doesn't have Pedersen either. Slot him in around the late 20s and once I've sorted out who else is missing I'll reissue.

      "It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong.The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

    • NON-MFC: Round 04

      Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
      Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions.     • CASEY: Gold Coast

      For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

    • REPORT: Gold Coast

      In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
