NT want their own AFL team but wonโ€™t let us play this Friday. What a joke!

They should put their hands up to hub a bunch of teams then. If they really want this then they need to grease some wheels.ย

I can't see how these two matters are in any way related.ย  What's the "joke"?

It is ridiculous that they arenโ€™t allowing AFL players who are tested regularlyย to play at Aliceย this week.ย

And at the same time they are asking for a newย team.ย

All take, no give.ย

Again Fat Tony, there's no connection between the two.ย

One is a Government led health and safety decision for Alice Springs and its communitiesย based on a little pandemic you may have heard of and the other is AFL NT's wish for a localย team in the future.ย  ย

See my previous posts, the cancellation of this weeks game in Alice is understandableย

Plenty of threads I could put this but this is as good as any. I find it almost laughable that Europe is able to create a system that allows the Euroโ€™s to take place with the players flying in and out and being isolated but Australiaโ€™s states after a year of this have still been unable to come up with a system to create freedom of movement to allow professional sport to continue.ย

The players and staff would be amongst the most tested people in the country, it just doesnโ€™t make sense to me. With proper precautions and systems in place this match could easily have taken place in NT.ย

Totally agree. And then for the SA CHO to come out yesterday and say this is pure lunacy:

Completely different contexts though pates.

In Europe, they are travelling to countries where there are still thousands of cases a day. The sytems are in place to protect the players from getting covid.

ย Here the systems are designed to stop the players spreading covid in states where there are zero cases and no community transmission. So the goal is to protect the population.

Victorians complaining about how other states and territories are managing the pandemic is so rich itโ€™s giving me a heart attack.

Yep very easy to live in a small island state with close to 0 international arrivals, no interstate work force, very small immigrant population and low inner city movement with low population density.ย
Unless you live in NSW you have legitimately zero right to chest beat about the handling of Covid in your state. They are the only state with similar population movement, density and international arrivals to Melbourne, and they have nailed it without shutting their borders every 3 minutes.ย

Jaded NSW has taken the majority of returning travellers 3 to i compared to Victoria

By every measure this states (victoria)response has been criminally poor and the government both bureaucrats and politicians should be condemned

I didnโ€™t realise the NT was an island?

I was talking about Tassie.ย
NT has a federal government quarantine facility. The only facility in the country that is actually built properly. And if you want to talk about population density, proximity to other large cities, movement of peopleย and so forth, NT does not come into it.ย
Their facilities are also half empty.ย
ย

I think we have had our fair share of bloody poor mismanagement in Victoria. Our second wave as an utter joke. But this lockdown was caused by poor handling of travelers in SA where someone healthy was next door to someone sick. Like wtf?!ย
We should have gone to a snap lockdown after the first mystery case. We didnโ€™t. Now we are in for an extended period of lockdown and restrictions, which is devastating for our economy, our kids and our well being. But this started in SA and they should take some of the blame for learning absolutely nothing about quarantine management.ย

Donโ€™t disagree at all.ย
We havenโ€™t done a good job in Victoria. But Iโ€™m sick of small states with hardly no international travelers and little density having a crack at Victoria.ย
NSW is the gold standard. If we were as far away as WA, Tassie or the NT,ย if we shut our borders every 3 minutes like QLD,ย if we had the population density of SA, then fair point. But Melbourne is in a totally different category.ย
We have the highest population density, we have large movement across the city each day, we have large immigration population who live in large household setting. We also have large number of factories, processing facilities, a massiveย international port and so forth. We canโ€™t be compared to other states except for NSW. I wish we could go into a government exchange program with them. But we canโ€™t.ย

Tickets on sale Wednesday apparently. If regional gets an unlikely exit clause on Thursday from lockdown, I might make a road trip up myself on Friday to add a few extraย at the game. The new NSW travelled case of covid has probably ruined that chance though....

Cheers legend.ย  Got myself my 6yr old son and a mate tickets. Picking young bloke early from school and on our way by 12pm Noon. Game on Boys....ย

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
