COVID & AFL 2021

My plan to send Covid to every state via Australia Post is coming to fruition… I got your back Melbourne fam 😂

I still can’t work out why the back up state option for the grand final is run by the most paranoid man in Australian in relation to COVID 19.

Absolutely. And did they think that covid would not raise it's head in W.A..Ofcourse it was going to and where and when was only a matter of time. If I was Melbourne I would be flying home tmrw after the game.

So the team should just go rogue and not listen to the AFL…yeah that’s the way to go

And people wonder why WA can so easily keep Covid at bay. They are literally socially distanced from Australia!

heard the 2 truckies were fully vaxxed and masked, which helps a little

but don't take my word for it

Also reported they slept in their truck cabins.
But if I know crazy Mark, they’re going into a 3 day lockdown in the next 12 minutes.

I have a gut-wrenching feeling every time someone on here reports their pain in not being able to attend the finals, and especially our older supporters in what might be a historic year after so many decades of heart-break. I meanwhile have a lot of relative freedom living in the tropics - but not so sure if I want to attend, concerned that I can't keep my cool in public, in what looks likely to be 5,000 kms from home. No TVs to smash live. Yet, I'm starting to feel however that it's my duty to attend, to carry the flag for all of us. I'm not well-off by any means, and the flights would be a major hit, but if someone has a grand final guarantee that they won't be able to use, then I'm open to discussions in how I might be able to honour that. Maybe I can take a specific banner on your behalf, or live-stream from the ground? Anyways, pm me if you have any ideas. I don't want to come across as cheap. Go Dees!

Yep. Keeping Covid at bay is by no means an easy feat, but behind Tasmania, WA has a whole desert and ocean to keep it out.

McGowan argues that Australia is not just NSW, yet the way he has handled the pandemic screams of keeping the rest of the country isolated away from the state as if he doesn’t want to be a part of it anyway.

will be interesting to see what he does next, given he has a potential Grand Final on his hands. Stakes would be a lot different too if a WA team was in it or there was an election around the corner.

Great idea, good luck Skuit, hope it comes off!

Also, I'm a writer by trade. Maybe I can be an on-the-day roving reporter for Demonland?

Easy to say in HindSight

😬

Just as easy in foresight though.
I mean, the list of exposure sites is a mile long now. Soon it’ll be quicker to name the non-exposure sites. Considering what’s at stake all players from all eight clubs should err on the side of caution. Get UberEats ffs.

I heard there’s an opening… Roving Skuit?

Turns out flights are insanely cheap. Just need to find some accommodation. There's a few posters on here who I am sure would vouch in the other direction.

Gil has been conned.  Adelaide would be a far better option despite the fact that Port are looking good at the moment.

I would have as much trust in McGowan as Biden does in the Taliban.

No kidding. What stuff do you write?

Jon Ralph "reporting" that Port will get to host a prelim if it wins tonight (which seems likely).

We and Geelong will be going to Perth after this round no matter what.

I write about the business consulting world for a crust, which is really far removed from my personal interests but does cover such a wide range of topics that it keeps me engaged. My own personal writing is in the little-known genre of fictocriticism, which blends fictive with academic writing and draws from numerous disciplines such as anthropology, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, literary theory and microbiology etc.

If Port don’t win the flag they’ve blown a once in a lifetime advantage

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
