Can you call the chief medical officer of QLD a Pollie?

Affiliated. There is something else I would like to call her but I shall refrain.

Afl website stating some players and staff are classified as tier 1 contacts and will have to isolate for 14 days regardless of result. Thankfully none of the Melbourne staff seem caught up in this.

Clubs listed as staff or players potentially exposed are Collingwood, essendon, GWS, North, St kilda, Sydney, Hawthorn and Bulldogs.

Maybe Hawthorn might have some late outs tonight.

The only one that comes close is the " don't touch the football" from SA.

A very good article from Jack Niall on the fixture the-show-will-go-on

"Forget the idea of a hiatus, or the Delta-inflicted version of a rain delay that forces them from the field for a week or two. Forget the concept of bringing forward the pre-finals bye".

"No, if the AFL has its way - and Delta doesn’t finally pin them in a tackle nastier than Shane Mumford’s - the show will go on, without delay".

And on a positive note:

"No one at the AFL has a clue what will happen with crowds, but it is hard to see the grand final leaving the MCG if they can manage even half capacity this season".

I can't access the paywall but Jon Ralph reporting that the Brisbane v Gold Coast game scheduled for Round 20 could be brought forward to Round 19.

I don't know why, but if that is correct it obviously impacts us. Brisbane's Round 19 opponent is Hawthorn (at the G) so we can't just swap opponents with them, which means at least one other game will be impacted.

North apparently is returning to Victoria but Essendon isn't, so you'd expect that means Essendon v GWS will proceed next week in Queensland.

St Kilda is apparently already in Perth so that should mean West Coast v Perth proceeds.

Right now our opponent for next week seems very unclear.

Jon Ralph now saying we'll be playing the Dogs next week:

This makes sense because six sides play each other in Round 19 who then play each other in Round 20.

In Round 19 there's Hawthorn v Brisbane, GC v Melbourne and WB v Adelaide.

In Round 20 there's Brisbane v GC, Melbourne v WB and Adelaide v Hawthorn.

So they can swap all three games and at least for another week no one's slate of opponents has to change.

Of course, thinking further, if they want to keep our GC game in Darwin, they're shaping up to be sending us to Darwin in Round 20 and then Perth the following week in Round 21...

Surely we won’t agree to doing Darwin then Perth. That would be a disgrace. Happy to play them both in the same state so both in Perth for example. But you can’t have us going from Darwin to Perth.

You'd sure as [censored] hope not!

But I'm sure Gill will tell us we have to be "agile and flexible". And we got shafted in being the side sent to Darwin in the first place. Plus the GC and WC games are critical to our fixture as they're the only two sides we're yet to play.

Agree. To play in Darwin is a joke but then on to mcgowanville in the space of a week is just pure terrorism.

If our home game vs the Dogs is brought forward, it will be our fourth home game affected by COVID.

We lost our two most profitable games to the first Victorian lockdown, and we're about to lose the Hawthorn and Dogs games too.

It's just awful luck for us. Compare the situation to the Dogs who, through what will now be six COVID-affected rounds, have had one home game (at the start, vs us). Or Geelong, who've also only had one home game in those six rounds but that home game still was able to have a crowd, albeit a reduced one. They're at home this week but at the G - a game that, with a crowd, they'd probably have had a larger crowd for Richmond.

Still think Ess should play GCS in Darwin in rnd 22.  Instead they get a holiday on the sunshine coast.

Meanwhile our games get switched around and we will probably go to Darwin then Perth.  (If that happens hopefully we fly from Darwin to Perth and chill out in a resort there).

Jon Ralph also tweeted that the AFL wants Port v Collingwood to stay on Friday night but if it can't go ahead due to SA's requirements, our game vs the Dogs will replace it.

So I guess we have to prepare for a six-day break into the Friday night game at this point?

Not all teams have played each other yet so they can't just stop the season after x rounds.  We need to play GCS and WCE.  Bulldogs need to play Adel, Hawks and Ess.  Can't have the top 2 teams not playing each team once.

Or, the AFL may juggle some games in later rounds to ensure all teams play each other once and shorten the season by a few games and have 'rolling byes'.

Edit:  I just saw Demonland's post of some player's in hard lockdown.  All the more reason for 'rolling byes'

If nothing else good comes out of 2 years of Covid-affected football scheduling, perhaps the AFL will find a way from 2022 onwards to ensure all teams play each other in the first 17 rounds and leave the double-ups to be played in the last 5 rounds.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
