well there ya go.. Byron probably off the menu ..

We may luck out a little in that we have a couple more days compared to the normal weekend to have someone come good....... or it might be reshuffling the deckchairs.

Im still clinging to the idea that a different instruction to play wil lhave more effect than too many changes to the team per se.

still theres an Idea for this week Danniher out...Williams In !!

Comrades.

Holland to CHF smacks of desperation. If he ain't going to make it down back - remember Jack Dyer's words - he sure as hell aint going to make it up forward. All power to him, and leave him where he is - he is doing a good job.

I am not going to pretend that I saw much of PJ when he won his Liston. I did see him against Collingwood in a NAB cup in 2004-ish when he destroyed the Pies from FF.

When are we really going to give his guy a chance? The injuries have cruelled him. Whenever I hear - hell, he can't mark - I can smell a cliche. He would not have won a Liston if he regularly mimicked the Neitz-bounce-the-ball-off-me-head when he went for a mark.

I sort of commented that Friday's night's team had a sameness about it. It was not really different in essence than the last three years. It had [censored]-whipping all over it. PJ as CHF or even FF if you like changes the dynamic or, in the very least, makes the opposition coach think differently about us compared with 04-06.

I do not want a repeat of the last three years. MIller kicks < one goal for every three games he plays. Ummm, some CHF (though he too, clearly has his place).

Let us see if this monster can play.

There is only 1 change this week which is compulsory:

McLean out due injury.

Rivers is an automatic selection, but is a backman.

Therefore we need a mid-fielder to replace McLean, and 1 less backman.

Pickett or Godfrey for the mid-fielder...take your pick.....you only get 10 seconds.

1 less backman = no Brown, probably no Wheatley, or Bizzell . Holland doesn't have a logical match up for size and speed, so is likely to miss.

If a Brown, Wheatley or Bizzell is to come in it has to be at the expense of Ward, Bell or CJ. Or is Yze now classified as a backman?

I strongly believe Wheatley still has alot to offer this year and is in our best 22. After hearing glowing reports of his game for Sandy last weekend, I can't believe more people aren't seriously putting his name up for selection this week. Forgotten man?

The forward line I would like to see against the Hawks.

(Not just where their name is on the team sheet but where they will play on the ground.)

HF: Pickett PJ Green / Bruce

FF: Davey Neitz Robertson

A lot of people complain about how PJ can't mark, and it's true that it's a big weakness of his.

The thing to remember is that Miller can't mark either.

If Yze does get a game then I would like to see him only in the forward half of the ground.

Green and Bruce can both kick bags of goals and I would like to see them rotated between the forward line and the midfield.

Not used in negative tagging roles.

IMO, there should be no less than four Melbourne forwards in their forward line at one time.

Interesting... Over to you RR.

Its been two to three years since Adem has been consistent cream. His career average is higher than where he is now and has been for some time.

On Friday 19 possessions, 16 uncontested (3 occurred within one play and represented some of the cheapest and frivolous touches you can get).

Another forgettable performance.

Its ironic that the only compliment that he has received is that "He was not the worst". What an inditement of a player who was once skilled. He was definitely near the bottom of the barrel.

I think the only thing that is saving him is the injuries to McLean, Sylvia, Pickett and Dunn. It might get him another run.

Mike Sheahan wrote a perceptive and interesting article on him.

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E20123,00.html

FWIW, I think it will take more than one good game (and I mean good game) for him to hold his position going forward.

If any two of those 4 above were fit I would have Yze getting a number of opportunities to beat his PB of 12 tackles at Sandy (That cant be right!)

If he plays another bad game regardless I would play Godfrey instead. At least Godfrey would leave nothing in the tank to produce. And it could not be worse than the invisible No 13.

I'd love to see The Bizz back out there alongside Ferg...is Pickett confirmed a starter?

Given Rivers is due back, its a struggle to see how either will come in.

Who would you drop? And who would either player match up on?

I'd give Rivers..... Franklin, Carrol take Roughhead, Bell take Williams. Bell played well on him last time.

"and is no certainty to play in the VFL this week."

Thats right, no certainty to play vfl this week because he may play either AFL or VFL.

Footy Show showed had an extended bench including Rivers, Slyvia, Pickett, Wheately, Bizzell and Brown along with the rest of last weeks team (minus Chook).

But then Garry said something about Paul Johnson being among the men included, but visually he wasn't.

So, in that case, i'm not reading anything into what the Footy Show said.

Hawthorn are welcoming back Crawf and Brown with some other duds on the extended bench.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
