GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs Fremantle

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Is it wrong to assume that;

•May and Lever can control the defence

• Salem and Hunt can take advantage of the new man on the mark rule when rebounding

•We don’t get shown up for pace

• We don’t turn it over constantly

•  Petracca and Oliver dominate the clearances to advantage, and push forward to hit the scoreboard

• Someone unbeknown to us can play a useful role and the ‘other wing’

• Gawn / TMac / Jacko / Fritta / Kossy can combine for 15 goals

In a wave of emotions I’ve seen us win, lose and win this game again.

The leaders need to set the tone and control the tempo.

I’ll be stuck in Canberra, glued to the TV and dressed in my full game day outfit.  I’ll be cheering along with you folks at the G, and belting out the words of the Grand Old Flag with you after the final siren (I wonder what the new neighbours will think!).  Dees by 5 or 6 goals!

Any thoughts / recommendations on taking a 2 year old?

Not expecting to watch much of the game, might only last 20 minutes in our seat but taking the opportunity to jump on the train and get out of the house for an adventure. Got a decent seat on Level 2 as well.

Lots of snacks and a fully charged phone and the YouTube app ?

One for the historians. When was the last time we beat the same side twice in one day?

The boys will beat Freo this afternoon and the girls will beat them tonight.

The women play tomorrow night

Rain is just beginning to fall here in the northern suburbs, expecting a hard fought contest at the 'G" with the Demons to prevail.

We know our backline is solid.

Can we kick a winning score?

Action Jackson to srand tall with 3 and Fritta a winning bag of 5.

Dees by 2 goals.

My wife has booked us in for some kind of fancy wine tasting event at 1pm today. I'm going to have to try the full media blackout...

Sorry Ken. buts that's the worse excuse i've read on this thread yet!

Ditch the wine testing and get to the G my friend. We need all the support we can get

Good luck, we are taking a 7 month baby, at least she can’t walk. Take heaps of snacks, have lots of patience and enjoy the atmosphere, you will have a great time. ❤️?

Well I do have a slight distance issue as well in terms of getting to the 'G. In fact out of interest I just checked out maps to see how far from home to the 'G it is: 666km! That has to be some sort of an omen...of what I am not sure.

To be fair to our forward line, we did not have any of the footy against the dogs, so it’s rough to judge them based on that.

Not to pump pressure on a 19/20 year old, but I feel like Pickett is going to be massively important for us this year. He had so many little half chances last year, but seemed to have a lot of posters or near misses. Reports are he is primed for a big year.

Good blend of experience and youth.

I was thinking about our end-to-end lines i.e from FB to FF, as it’s our ability to connect (and defend) along these lines that we’ve been working on, and if we can get right will see us rise.
Expect Maxy will play forward a lot, roaming up when balls in our defence, with our smalls setting up around and working off him, and the contested space around him.
Feeling confident that we’ve got the approach, age, speed/endurance, and motivation to win today, and as players return evolve into a powerful unit as the season progresses.

as I was called recently in regard to my MFC thoughts I’m “bravely optimistic “.

Dees by 5+ goals

Go Denons!

Despite his epic season last year Petracca has never had a 30 disposal game in his career.

Today is the day!

I'd prefer if he has his first 5 goal haul.

I reckon we have had maybe only one or two bags of 5 by a player in 10 years.  Am I right? or am i just traumatised and my recollection is hazy as a result?

Hogan I'm assuming both times.

2024 Player Reviews: #18 Jake Melksham

After sustaining a torn ACL in the final match of the 2023 season Jake added a bit to the attack late in the 2024 season upon his return. He has re-signed on to the Demons for 1 more season in 2025. Date of Birth: 12 August 1991 Height: 186cm Games MFC 2024: 8 Career Total: 229 Goals MFC 2024: 8 Career Total: 188

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. 2024 Player Reviews: #42 Daniel Turner

The move of “Disco” to a key forward post looks like bearing fruit. Turner has good hands, moves well and appears to be learning the forward craft well. Will be an interesting watch in 2025. The Demon’s key defender and backline leader had his share of injuries and niggles throughout the season which prevented him from performing at his peak.  Date of Birth: 5 March 1996 Height: 195cm Games MFC 2024: 18 Career Total: 178 Goals MFC 2024: 1 Career Total: 5

2024 Player Reviews: #13 Clayton Oliver

Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. He carried injury right through the back half of the season and was controversially involved in a potential move during the trade period that was ultimately shut down by the club. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

Melbourne’s most important player who dominated the first half of the season until his untimely injury in the Kings Birthday clash put an end to his season. At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury.
