It was always going to be a story. It doesn’t bother me, but i am old school

Since the “me to” movement started, the goalposts have shifted.
this just gives people another reason to dislike the MFC

It may also make it harder to negotiate money deals with The different Government Departments.
Yes it is a Coterie Group event, and not the MFC.

But it would have been a better decision for diplomatic reasons if Bartlett and Pert had quietly declined the invitation

for diplomatic reasons, maybe, but a bit hard to snub your major financial backers. maybe by the time they knew the details it was too late to organise a diplomatic switch of venues, we just don't know all the details, but i presume this situation will be avoided in future now, and the woke crowd will just find something else to be outraged by

The Venue is Fine. Bartlett and Pert should stay away. It’s not a Club Function

We only have the 1 vice president I believe, Kate Roffey.

Kate is the only female involved at any level of board or executive. But sure, let's pat ourselves on the back.

Doesn't seem Kate is speaking at this particular event?

The website lists 2 Vice Presidents. My point is Bartlett’s change of title is more than symbolic because it impacts the title of his deputy. It’s not a panacea but it has real consequences by removing an obstacle to a female head of the board.

There’s no reason a Vice President would speak at a coterie season launch no matter where it was held.

Yeah lets fill the entire board and staff with females, who cares if they are qualified or not.

We must not rest until the entire club is 100% female!

if bartlett and pert did stay away it would still have been reported by the abc journo and by the woke crowd because of the close association with the mfc.

never let the facts get in the way of a "good" story (journalism 101)

I disagree. Bartlett and Pert are the story, particularly during the AFLW season.

the facts have been reported, whether you or i agree.
it is just a stupid thing to do

That means the venue is not fine. Otherwise why do they have to stay away.

If they wish to meet there, fine. Just don’t put the heat on the Club, which is exactly what has happened

The point of the function is for the Coterie to get their money’s worth by hearing from senior staff. There’s no point having the function if no one from the club turns up.

The venue is fine. When the only problem is optics for optics sake it’s not a problem at all. If it can host a wedding it can host a group of football supporters.

The club has multiple coteries including all women coteries, they hold dozens of events in dozens of locations all in order to try to raise money for the club from as many sources as possible. I personally have been to three so far this pre-season and there have been few women, not for lack of invite but I suspect the fact men donating to football clubs vs women is probably a ratio of 100 to 1.

This confected outrage is truly pathetic but what we have come to expect from theirABC.

I found myself curious about where exactly on the spread of this discussion one finds people blowing this thing out of proportion, seeing gender conspiracies everywhere, contriving outrage, fantasizing about slippery slope catastrophes and just generally being bizarrely passive-aggressive?

Nothing stupid about the President or Pert speaking at a supporters function. It’s their role to communicate across the membership. They didn’t select the venue. It would be bad if they didn’t support a group who financially back the club. Why should coterie members not be able to listen to the club management.

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
