I personally think it's Viney who upsets our balance. Our midfield I thought looked its best since 2018 when Brayshaw went in and played full time during Viney's injury.

Much as I love Jack’s fight and dedication I have to agree with you, it’s why I think it’s on the coaching staff to work out some creative solutions. Jack can (and should) continue to do time in the middle as an clearance player but a balance needs to be created to prevent him upsetting the balance.

Partially agree with that 'balance' perception with Viney in there, all the time. Often, it appears that Viney is 'anti-team-play', perferring to do more (or attempting to do more) with the ball than what his talents allow. Again, frequently, this results in a stoppage at best or worse - a turnover. His attitude seems to be '...I have the ball, take from me if you dare...' and this runs him into consecutive brick walls of opponents. (ie: it is a good bet that in such circumstances the opposition players are justly confident that Viney will not 'pass off' to another teammate, will not run in possession towards a teammate safety/shielding zone, will continue to progress with the ball until he is trapped - often the case.) Love his enthusiasm, his desire but shudder at its execution and the frequency of negative outcomes.

With this discussion about Gus I hope the coaches are looking at creative ways to shuffle the abundance of inside miss around the park. He was having a very poor year in 2020 until (I can’t remember who it was against) he was given the responsibility as one of our main clearance players. Suddenly he looked like the Gus of old.

I didn’t want Viney to go and I’m glad he’s committed to being basically a demon for life, but we do have an imbalance when he and Oliver are there with Gus. With Harmes as well returning to the midfield group I would like to see Gus, Viney, and Harmes rotate on the HFF to be pressure mid/forwards and hopefully snag a couple of goals.

But I think a big key to Angus being in form is that he does long stints as an inside midfielder.

With a return to longer quarters, reduced interchanges and our apparent philosophy of running other teams into the ground, we are going to need a lot more midfield rotations. I expect we'll see a lot more of Gus as well as Harmes, Sparrow and a bit of Jordon, Spargo and one or two others in there (eg. Melksham) in there.

Agree.  Teams will need 6-8 genuine ‘around the contest’ type players.  Ones that can rest forward and be dangerous will be highly prized.  Also may need additional players who can support the running backs and wings.  The new man on the mark rule May see a lot more running through these zones.

training reports had Kozzi running through from half back, as an example.

Given our list and plan, this could put us in good shape. A broader balance of inside and outside players that run for longer might be better than 2 superstars looking for their pension and a group of nuffies.

this may impact guys like Melksham and Hibbard (even Jones) getting games as well.

We have to be careful using such words to describe the man, "specimen".

His race and colour, has and continues to be vilified.

I ask myself would a particular person want to be labelled with a particular word?

I suggest he would not like to be called a specimen, even though it was meant with the right intentions.

The word has probably been used by the slavers and phrenologist, to described psuedo social/mental hierarchy, as well as others using it to be derogatorive or to dehumanise the person.

I hope you understand were I am coming from, given the Collingwood racial report and the on-going saga about social equity and racism.

We all need to talk and walk kindly with our "brothers and sisters" who have been more oppressed in this world.

I hope that I have not offended you, I just felt I needed to call it out!

Intention is the pivotal word. Should we judge the word by the intention or the interpretation?

In regards to Viney disrupting the balance, I would really prefer Gus to fill that void, definitely not Chompers. Really think Harmes has gone backwards and the less we see if him the better.

Both, as offence can always be taken, depending on the pain, the consequences and the situation.

Good intentions may be interpreted as non-recognition, or ignorance.

Good Intentions give an opportunity for the conversation.

Good Intentions are always a good start to relating.

I have a mate who is good friends with his family. Apparently he has sourced unobtanium footy boot studs from Pandora ...(think floating mountains in Avatar)

Could do with a bit of the other recent(ish) appearance of unobtainium, from The Core.  Is almost completely indestructible and converts external pressure into focused energy.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
