I wonder if both clubs will kick up a fuss if they see people watching behind the fence?

And hopefully they'll do a stream of the game.

You wouldn't think so hey? I think it's only 'closed' due to being extra cautious with COVID, so if people are far enough away it should be ok. (Guessing though)

Hopefully a live stream available like last year, even if it ends up being a Richmond one.

If it is ok to go to the dogs ground yesterday to watch the girls / tennis match why is  not ok to go a ground to watch a practice match?

And the 'no crowd' AFLW at Punt Road the other week had plenty of people outside the fence watching. Masks on of course.

My wife and daughter  went to the comedy theatre on the Thursday before the lock down it was a full house with not social distancing and few people wearing masks. How does that work? My wife's theory is that there are no cameras there for it to be seen on tv.

the AFL are preparing for bubbles... we know they are coming... only question is when where and how long.

Playing round 1 in WA on present rules will require and exemption for the visiting team if from Victoria. Luckily it's GCS so they are ok to visit at present. Giants in round 2 and Port Adelaide in round 3.

Then there is the issue of the team from WA visiting the East

That last one is the big one DJ. What happens when Freo comes to play us in the first round do they have to stay here? Are we allowed into QLD at the moment ? I have lost track.

FWIW, Carlton and Essendon are doing a members only live stream for their game on Thursday.

Even though I dislike the second one with rare intensity they do cater for their supporters. Carlton gives more off the field than most.

Ticketed events that have covid protocols (zones, player areas etc) to allow for tracing. The next round of practice games starting March 4 are the proper ones, but they limited that to one round and made these games unofficial scratch matches.

Easy fix register when you go in, same as I have to every time I go to the local pub or restaurants.

Relatively easy but then they have to add in covid marshals, security, keep the staff and players clear of the public and so on. And if a decent crowd turns up then they are taking away from the product they've sold which is the games in a fortnights time.

I'd also imagine the interstate teams would ask why they are limited to 1 practice match if the Victorians roll out 2 full scale matches with crowds.

It's not great for us as fans but I can see why they've made them closed sessions in line with the training policies.

Is the game being broadcast by Richmond?

Because they want all games ticketed and no walk ins, covid check points and the like.

Carlton V Essendon, Bulldogs V Hawthorn (both games members only) and Adelaide V Port are announced games that will be streamed live.

Hopefully we follow suit.

After listening to the AGM tonight I hope the Tigers are doing it and we can share as I don’t think we have 5 cents to rub together when it come to extra costs.

It was before the lockdown !

The stage whatever conditions apply until they are altered and the Friday 6 pm was the time for lockdown conditions to Commence and apply for the 5 days.Thatshow would have been shut during lockdown of course.

I assume that there was an inside mask requirement and elsewhere crowd figures about 50/75% of normal. On the Thursdsy prior.

They both say there were no spare seats anywhere. My wife wanted to leave but stayed because my daughter said we will be ok with our masks on.

Not sure why there's an AFL Directive to not live stream this game when others are being live streamed (presumably under another AFL directive).

I think you might want to explain to your daughter how masks work OD ?; they are more designed to protect others from the wearer.

I would have thought that was just a poorly written tweet, and that the AFL directive was the “behind closed doors” part, for a COVID safe environment.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
