Get your mitts off my Tweets, Kingy. The question is whether Salem is quick enough to get into position for the kick inside 50.

I'm not sure that Salem has that ability to affect contests in the air.

I actually think Salem is pretty good in the air. Not that he'll ever be classed for his marking, but he's deceptively clever man-on-man in the air.

I would try him as a defensive half forward and see how he goes.  He can always move to half back if it doesn't work out.

All I know is that he is not a midfielder / winger.

How do you know that P2J?

Explain please.

I wouldn’t be using a pick on a half back on the assumption Salem will be a success on the wing. I wouldn’t be moving Hunt back there either. He has found his role in support up forward.

I would definitely use a pick to find a winger.

If its an itch we have to scratch play him there after Baker has had a run (quite likely he’ll be dropped but you never know). If it doesn’t work then revert back quickly. But don’t be wasting picks on a position where we have a perfectly good player in situ.

All the guys I mentioned are extremely versatile and can play wing as well to a high standard, so if a Salem wing experiment didn't work you can always swap their positions. Personally I don't see it in Baker, don't think he has the toughness to ever make it at AFL level.

Nothing wrong with experimenting but there has to be a fall back.

Agree re Baker. He has shown flashes but little of substance thus far.

I have watched some of the matches this year when Trent Rivers played and I believe he has all the attributes which are required for the modern wingman and he should be given first dibbs at the role this year rather than Salem.

Salem is the current player who most reminds me of Adem Yze... so maybe the new midfield coach can get the best out of him.

Except endurance. A knock on Rivers before the draft was his tank, it’s probably why he fell a bit in the draft and didn’t play as many games as he could’ve this year.

I’d put Rivers in the same boat as Salem, far more valuable at half back or on ball than the wing.

Especially if we’re planning to go direct to goal with big talls. Hard runners is the need for the wing, the class players do more damage at half back or on ball.

Yes. I have him on the wing in my best 22.   His tank may not be ready though for next season.

A lot of people are writing off Adam Tomlinson but I think we will see a lot if him in 2021... we are back on the MCG and he was likely recruited to help our running power there where our record is poor.

Pretty sure even the MFC have written off Tom Linson on the wing

You could play our home games on a remote cattle station and Tomlinson would still be too slow for the wing.

Salem has a very distinctive running gait. He has a very short stride and a quicker step. For that reason alone, he doesn't strike me as suited to the wing, even if he can clock up the kms. It's quite the opposite of your hard runner's longer stride eg. Langdon, Kelly, Whitfield

If Melksham really is as cooked as he looked this year, maybe Salem can move into that role.

He should be way more damaging than he currently is.

Melsham role?  wait in the goal square for someone to do the work and kick it to me?

Tommo will earn his keep as a very valuable versatile stopgap and spare parts player who is for  the team. He will prob never get full credit fir his roles but will ensure the opposition don't take the game away without a real fight.

Third  defender, support ruck change up forward and very occasional winger are all spots that He will handle and give support in a meaningful manner in 2021 and beyond.

Could say the same thing about TMac.

I'd be very wary of moving Salem off HB.  His kicks out of the back 50 set up so many of our scoring opportunities.

I like where our backline is at, we should find the answers to our forward 50 connection elsewhere.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
