2020 Player Reviews: #20 Adam Tomlinson

Recruited from the GWS Giants to take up a wingerโ€™s role but has settled in well as a tall defender.

Date of Birth: 10 August, 1993

Height: 194cm

Weight: 96kg

Games MFC 2020: 13

Career Total: 153

Goals MFC 2020: 0

Career Total: 35

Votes 2020 Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Memorial Trophy: 92

ย

Very average player IMO just like he was at GWS.

His recruitment makes me seriously wonder if our Brains Trust has any idea or is totally clueless.

ย

I thought that Adam filled a couple of holes for us this year, he can mark and usually passes offย the ball reliably and looks OK in the backline.

Thanks Adam !!!!

Steady no fussย footy player I like what he brings

Hope he has a great 2021

ย

We finally got the answer of what Chris Dawes would look like if he played on the wing or half back flank.

The man moves like a bath tub.ย

2019ย  GWSย  Tomlinsonย  pinch hit in the ruck in most of their games 58 hit outs 155 marks 425 disposalsย  and kicked 4 goals a pretty good season and no wonder Goody chased him to play a role on the wing.ย

He was pretty average in 2020 however if you go by the stats of 2019 and his highlights he stood out so there is improvement in his game to come.ย if he plays to his ability he will be valuable for usย  for sure. watching with interest in 2021.

we recruited him to play on the wing at the g; only got a couple of opportunities and his game against the cats was pretty positive - if he'd taken his time and gone back and nailed that set show we might've made finals

his form once we headed up north was hideous but i thought once he came back into the side as a key defender i thought he played a really important role

it'll be interesting to see how the footy dept utilise him in 2021 and beyond; for mine, he looks a natural part of the backline as he's good one on one, has excellent endurance to run with the 'power running' forwards, and is a neat kick

he cost us nothing other than salary cap contribution so...his acquisition worked for me

ย

Has not justified a four year contract.

Underperformed for the Giants in the 2019 finals and was uninspiring for us in 2020.

May plug a hole going forward but you have to wonder about his recruitment.

I have always thought that he was a 'spaceman' and a runner with good disposals. I hope he hits consistent form to make the most of his flanking moves - these are quite extensive but out of the eyes of our backmen in 2019-2020 seasons; just the same, great qualities for a wingman - speed, space-seeker, feeder, marker, two-way animal.

Very good summary WW.

Agree Very happy if Adam is 3rd tallย defender But even happier if he is listed on the interchange for versatilityย down back and in ruck.

If only an Emergency then we are in great shape.

Will be a good Clubmanย and role player but prob won't play in our Drought breaking ย premiership But if he does then he will have contributed and earned his spot,

3 more years and although salary seems 'overs' you have to pay that mostly when trading with other Clubs!

Adam the reliable!!.

Biggest question for me, is how he and TMacย play in the same side?

With the likelihood of Brown, Weid and Jacko up fwd, he and TMac would be fighting for a spot down backย imo.ย

Just a player, as he was at the Giants. I'm okay with him being in the bottom 4 on the team sheet each week as you have a fair idea what he will deliver, but that type of player does not warrant a four year contract.
