Has had the jitters since IMO.

he had a corked thigh at the time so I always forgive him that miss.  20m out on a slight angle against Carlton I think.

That episode, unfairly or not, did colour my thinking on him.

Andrews took 2 contested marks in the game.

Andrews career averages for contested marks  is 1.34 a game . He took 14 marks when his average is just over 5 a game. He did very well.

If he was he would be in the side now. Apparently the people who pick the team disagree with you. The Coaches at MFC are such fools aren't they.

Possibly, or maybe they are saving Brown for the back half of the season, maybe they are still unsure about his injury? All i really know is that unless your " inside the tent" all our opinions are just that.

You don't get off that easily, you've gone from "he's ready to go now" to "maybe they are still unsure about his injury". Always loved Hogans Heroes. Wasn't Sgt Shultz's line "I see nothing!"

Give up while you're behind Scultzy, the current selection committee includes Yze and Williams. In any case the message sent to McDonald was a challenge he rose up to and was delivered in such a way so as to not burn any bridges. I would think that's a big tick.

Im sitting at my desk working and need a distraction, so lets keep going.

Demonland is mostly  made up of peoples opinions - not usually facts directly from inside the club.

My opinion was that Brown appears to be ready to go now and Weid has not performed over the last 4 weeks- which part do you disagree with?

Brown in rounds 7 and 8 kicked 5 goals. Sam in rounds 9,10,11 and 12 kicked 4.3.

So, i had the opinion that maybe ther is another reason why Brown is not in the side. It does not appear to be form.

My point was that coaches can and do make mistakes, perhaps persevering with Sam at the xpense of Ben is a mistake? Who knows only time will tell.

The message sent to McDonald, loud and clear, was your not wanted at the club. The fact that Tom was able to rise above such a poor decison from the coaching/list management team say much about Tom and a fair bit about the others

Have you read my long reply to Ham on Pg 9 of this thread? If not get back to me after you have, may save me some typing.

It seems to me Weideman brings more pressure when the ball is on the deck  and this what Brown can’t offer.

I'd rather he could take a mark and kick goals

Players seeking out mentors outside of the club in addition to their internal coaching is extremely common, the Saints clearly have their reasons for not allowing that to happen, but this sort of thing is extremely common. Jesse Hogan met with Wayne Carey when at the Dees, Jack Watts with Jobe Watson, Petracca with Pendlebury.. the list goes on

know what you're talking about before you pot coaches. the club rates Stafford extremely highly.

Jesus, what a terrible idea.

I’ve asked this question myself too, 5 goals in his first three matches after returning from a long injury hiatus is very decent.

Btw, Weideman has kicked 3.4 from 4 outings, not 4.3, which further strengthens your argument.

I'd like to see Weideman used differently rather than predominantly deep forward.

Multiple leads even if he ends up on the wing sometimes (Jackson, T-Mac and/or Gawn can all drift forward if that happens)

He needs to get his hands on the ball and get some cheap uncontested marks.  Get him into the play

Or perhaps the MC prefer him to play the role that he's got so they can use T-Mac, LJ & Gawn the way they're being used. If that's the case then is his role an issue?

You have to be a really talented player to excel in the role that's he got so there's that as well.  He doesn't have the ability of a Lynch or Cameron type

So my preference aside,  I reckon the MC won't be changing things up as I suspect that the they are prepared to persevere with Weideman in the role that he's got

Compare apples with apples.

round 9

Weid 13 disposals 0.1 goals 5 marks 1 tackles

Brown 11 disposals 0.1 goals 3 marks 0 tackles

round 10

Weid (AFL) 9 disposals 1.1 goals  3 marks 4 tackles

Brown (VFL)  4 disposals 0.0 goals 0 marks 0 tackles

round 11

Weid 6 disposals 2.1 goals 5 marks 1 tackle

Brown did not play

round 12

Weid 8 disposals 0.1 goals 3 marks 2 tackles

form from last 4 weeks ?

the kid is 23. all this talk about moving him on before he has even matured is crazy. I am of the belief we should keep him in the team until B. Brown or M. Brown are knocking down the door so hard that it's impossible to ignore. and even before lock down, that wasn't happening, so just chill and let the kid play into form.

Lets not also lose sight that we just played 2 of the top 4 teams in the last 2 weeks. The beauty of our forward line is not defined by a key position forward (Weid/Brown) but made up many different components. We have speed and finesse around stoppages (Kozzy, ANB, Spargo), endurance, workrate and contested marking (TMac, LG) and general footy smarts and skill (Fritsch). Throw in our other mids (Trac, Oliver) and you have a really diverse attacking profile which is really what you want. Having a single channel to goal through a KPF is handy but is not (and should not) be our 1 wood - it is just the cherry on top.

So whilst i'd love Weid and Brown to kick a bag every week, it is easy to predict and counter. As long as they continue to take the 1st defender and ensure they play their role, im happy if they essentially neutralize the defensive threat so that our other offensive options can get to work.

form from last 4 weeks ?

Thanks Marty,  I love that you haven't given an opinion just layed out the facts. I will give an opinion drawn from those facts. BBB is not banging down the door to be included in the Seniors and some of that is out of his control. Further to that I will pose some questions.

When BBB was replaced in the side by Weid would the Coaches have given Brown a thing or things they wanted to see him do or improve in order to be re-selected and take Weids spot?

Other than at training has there been an opportunity for BBB to demonstrate any improvement or show he has taken on any instruction he has been given, if any?

Should BBB be selected on the basis of his reputation?

Yes, Yes & Yes. He's a mature AFL standard player and a proven 60 goal/yr FF. He's wasted in the resies, who aren't playing.

Bring him in.

After he comes in against collingwool and kicks 6. I expect you'll be with me on same the band wagon.

I think this is where the conversation around Sam gets a little confused. At 23, he is not a kid! The simple fact is that he is now half way through his sixth AFL season (and probably his career), and there is little to suggest he will make it as a productive key forward. We can talk all we like about what he may become, or not, and how others have taken time to develop (Hawkins). Hogan at 23 was a way better player than what Sam is, and I could come up with many others. I really hope he does make it, but I have little confidence that will happen.

Awesome questions and the answer is no. At no fault of BBB.
Im sure after round 9 the mc decided they won’t work together unless A.B.C happens.
BBB went back to VFL to work on a few things. Unfortunately he had 1 chance and it didn’t happen for him.

Simple, you don’t make unforced changes to winning teams! It kills the ethos!

Just like backs with Tomlinson, The forward line is one injury away from desperately needing Big Ben. But while we are winning and Weid is at least contesting and bringing the ball to ground. Have Faith!!!

And I should add.

we shelve Weid now. You don’t cut it!

Tmac gets injured say 1 month later, M Brown is also injured...and now we need Weid, who we just told wasn’t going cut it.

No team first. Doesn’t matter how many he kicks.

all that matters is we win!

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
