And if we said to North, we will get you Stephensen for Brown and then force Pies to take a lower 2nd round pick, as they just have to salary dump,  it gets better.

Quite possible

There was no maths. It was all player greed

Beams didn’t write the ridiculous contract.
Treloar signed what was put in front of him

It wouldn't surprise me if all big Collingwood contract have to be approved by Ed.

It depends on what he was being told. It would not be the first time that a large company mislead the Chief through incompetence. I remember a while back a MFC chief had a drawer full of invoices that were not declared.

Quite possible, but basic maths has been neglected. There is no excuse for this

The Filth have lied to their own players big time

That's because he was still paying his $600.000 desk off?

I think this is unfair for two reasons. Firstly, the final decision whether to pay the amount sought is the club's, not the player's. Secondly, players do not necessarily know what their teammates are being paid, so wouldn't know where they fit in the pecking* order at the club and therefore whether they are getting what is fair and reasonable or not.

(I know we're talking about Magpies, but this was an unintended pun.)

You Miss understand

this was Collingwood Player Greed, not the individual players

The Filth wanted the great list and worry about paying them money later.
They still have Grundy to worry about

This is so “how not to run a business”

no wonder McGuire has quit Radio ?

May they implode for many more days yet

Franklin's contract moved the goalposts by a massive margin. What looked like a stupid play was quickly lauded as a masterstroke due to increases in the salary cap(media deals). The AFL is a very small bubble and the mantra turned into its own echo chamber. Now that bubble has burst big time.

Will clubs learn from it. Probably not as every bad decision can be justified at the time it is made. It's only hindsight that makes them look poor.

MFC  has made a few of its own.

If they have any brains they will move away from x years at $Y dollars, and start talking salary cap percentages. Maybe not for the whole contract, but for the future years which exist say 2-3 years away or after the next EBA.

For the bigger contracts anyway.

The union will never agree to that one Deanox. They already think their share of Revenue  is too low.

What a total [censored] up. Edward must be going bezerk right now

Which heads will roll?

This from the fox website should answer some questions.

Dual premiership Kangaroo David King said it was unfathomable how quickly the Pies have run into their TPP issue.  I think there’ll be a Royal Commission into how they go into this situation at Collingwood,” King told Trading Day.“Ned Guy, he’s acting like the Candy Man handing out contracts down there. It’s unbelievable what some of these guys are on.

I'm not sure what you mean here. Are you saying that the players as a group forced the club to pay "overs"?

As i read it players were asking for overs and the pies kept caving in.

Mahoney indicating having 2 picks in the 20-30 range could see us picking up a couple of players that will slide due to the lack of exposed (current) form in the junior ranks.

Then in the next breath hasn't ruled out making more pick swaps!

No. I am saying Collingwood wanted a list of A Grade Players with no regard as to how they would be paid.
The Players don’t assemble the List

The Club does all that

Thanks for clarifying. I think we agree, don't we, that the problem is the club's making, not the players'?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
