This is the link to the Melbourne list: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/alltime/melbourne.html

You can navigate back to the main menu to find the same list for the other clubs.

P.S. "AFL Tables" is my favourite website.

Interesting website - as a comparison, Richmond have had 30 players at over 200 games, so not a huge disparity over 130 odd years. However 4 of those players are currently in the team: Edwards, Cotchin, Riewoldt and Martin.

Is there somewhere I can check the other clubs? For the oldest club in it, this seems ridiculously low!

Is this then an indictment on the players, our development or the club altogether although the latter two go hand in hand and we all know we are probably the worst in the comp at this!

It is ridiculously low. We are the oldest football club in the world, yet we have only ever had 1 player reach the 300 game milestone. Let that sink in.
Compare that to Hawthorn as an example, a club 40-50 years younger than us. They've had 8 players top 300 games and around 40 top 200 games.
Compare it to West Coast, who have only been around for 3 decades. They've had 21 players top 200 games and have Hurn closing in on 300. 3 decades and they've nearly caught what we've done in over 150 years!

We've had poor development forever as a club. As a result we've lacked star players compared to other clubs. Flower was a very special player, but the fact we still talk about him as a measuring stick shows just how lean the past few decades have been. When you compare us to other clubs we truly are an abysmal failure outside the 50s-60s.

Just for fun, this is what a team of 200 game players looks like:

FB: B.Lovett, T.Johnson, S.Smith

HB: S.Febery, G.Hardeman, D.Williams

C : R.Flower, T.Viney, B.Dixon

HF: A.Yze, J.Mueller, G.Lyon

FF: R.Robertson, D.Neitz, N.Smith

FOLL: J.Stynes, R.Barassi, P.Beams

INT: N.Jones, J.McDonald, S.Alves, G.Wells

EMG: B.Green, J.White, C.Bruce

Yes.

But both started from a much more talented base than any player on our list since Robert Flower (or, in Carey's case, arguably, ever).

Buddy actually needed a round the clock minder.  He was high risk with lot of his party activities.  Saw him out there few times high as a kite. Not sure if we need to molly coddle stars but all players need to be developed....even the stars !

Pretty sure Carey needed a minder, too, and for similar reasons.

Fascinating that only a handful of these names come from the golden years

Actually, it is sometimes easier to reach 200+ games at a weaker club; where you may be gifted some games early, have less competition for spots, and then hung onto a little longer at the end of your career.

In earlier years players were not paid like they are now and many hung up the boots because they could no longer afford the time involved in playing at the highest level or what may seem strange now but there was more money available if you went to a VFA team or major leagues in the bush. 150 game players could literally double their pay by accepting a captains job at a club elsewhere.

there is no excuses

reasons a plenty. a fully professional environment does work for some, bur for too many others it is their downfall, big money, lots of attention, molly coddled, can't think for themselves etc etc

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
