Some maturity creeping in perhaps - learning when to go and when to hold. Was a definite tactic tonight to slow their dash.

After having it done to us so many times in the last couple of years, we finally have an alternative game plan which showed it can take advantage of a situation and play with that bit of class ( Weideman's goal)

It's a big step.  Was a clear determination during the week after the implosion against the Dogs.  Hugely glad that they got the reward and positive reinforcement for working on it.

Ahh, it's good to be a demon for a few days at least.

Love those learnings, yeah, love those learnings.

Maybe they are just starting to play to instruction.  That will hurt Goodwin haters

Would've been nice to have done this last week when the Doggies exploded in the 3rd

It was something I was cringing watching wondering when we were going to make a mistake but our composure did shine through. Rivers really helped in this area. A massive test passed with flying colours, we successfully managed to kill the clock!

It was a bizarre watch to me. I was continuously waiting for the game to break open or for St Kilda to pinch a couple of cheeky goals in a row out the back. But it didn’t happen. Thanks mainly to Steven May.

Well coached to all concerned, they certainly worked hard during the week. I have no doubt Richo played a major part.

Funny thing.  If you look at the young core group they are all getting up around that 100 game mark now.  Salem, Harmes, Petracca, Gus and Clarry are all right around that mark.  You'd almost think this whole idea of bringing together a core of quality players and getting them to their prime at the same time is working.

Harmes isn't in the side. Oliver lifted in the second half but still is a bit iffy in making smart decisions. Petracca was really struggling in the midfield and Gus had a bad night. But those guys along with Langdon give us a core group of midfielders to keep us in games even if it's not their best days.

May, Gawn and Lever played like leaders and Tracc played like a top line talent.

We've lost a lot of games to teams like Geelong when we've been the better overall team but they've had a handful of leaders and a superstar step up and beat us.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
