Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

May is proving to be a success but that was at the expense of Hogan

Langdon is close to being a success and I would go after his brother at the Pies.

Lever is not at this stage but could prove to be over a longer time frame on a reduced contract

Tomlinnson is not yet and unlikely to be the promised player to run up the wings at the G as spruiked by the Club

Score B  overall when it needed to be A

According to Nick Riewoldt:

”Melbourne has not had the same success. In recent years they have brought in Jake Lever, Steven May, Ed Langdon, Kade Kolodjashnij, Braydon Preuss and Adam Tomlinson.

Of those six, Tomlinson has been a failure, Lever has looked shaky since his knee reconstruction, Preuss and Kolodjashnij have hardly played, Langdon has been OK and May has been good after poor start to his Melbourne career.”

Yep, agree on Lever but gave him the benefit of further time and did not feel like getting howled down here today. I infered Tomlinson was a failure for the role he was recruited for and again have debated his worth enough already. I think Langdon has been a good pick up but that is through my Demon rose coloured glasses so Nick might be correct.

Kolodjashnij was a bewildering pick.

Preuss was a wait and hope.

Brad Hill is on 900k a year over 6 years and will be almost 34 at the end of that contract! Let’s just see how that plays out. The saints almost dropped him 6 weeks ago.

Jake Lever had a horrific knee injury and is still only 24. We paid overs because he fit the list demographic perfectly.

May is a huge win over Hogan, no matter how you look at it given what’s occurred.

Everyone else is swings and roundabouts. I really rate Langdon in terms of what he offers to us structurally. He holds his shape better than any outside Melbourne player in 10 years.

The issue with us has been player development. Fritsch, Harmes, Hannon, ANB and Brayshaw, Weed and Salem in particular (as high draft pics) just haven’t stepped up. We needed 2-3 of those guys to become solid talent, and some still have time, but haven’t don’t it yet.

I can't see the article and not sure what time frame it covers but comparing their trade-ins of the last 3 years with ours (named above) their's have collectively been a lot better:  Hill, Jones, Ryder, Howard and Butler.  Their flop is Hannebery due to his recurring injuries.

They have used their last 3 top 10  draft pics wisely:  King (2018), Clark (2017), Coffield (2017).

That is virtually recruiting a new spine and wings with some mid field additions.

They are greater improvements in the last 3 years than ours.

Riewoldt says the Saints have got it right since 2014, while we haven't.

I recall us playing and winning more finals than them since 2014 but yeah, don't take those St. Kilda goggles off Nick. And yes, I am well aware they might play finals this year, but we can still play finals as well.

He also really only highlights the previous off season for St Kilda. Outside of Hannebery he doesn't talk about anyone else.

So yes, Nick, if you had of said that since 2019 the Saints have got it right compared to us, then I'd be inclined to agree. But since 2014? That's a longer bow to draw.

Saints rebuild was so good they had to overpay, in some cases massively, for 5 players all at once to look even half decent.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
