Anyway to answer the broader question on Taylor, I think he's been pretty good for us. Not every pick has been a win but I still feel like the bigger issue is in development and not the picks themselves. I really like the look of Kozzie and Jackson though.

I loved Roos but he stuffed that up. he had a known quantity in Tyson who was never going to be an A grader as he was simpley too slow and not agile either. and an average kick. It gave us a short term solution but as an experienced premiership coach I expect him to covet those early picks and bring in experience elsewhere. and maybe sacrifice a game or two. 

With the benefit of time, Picks 2 & 20 for Tyson, Salem & Hunt has been a massive fail.  Nicest bloke you’d ever meet is Dom, but slow as a wet week and I can’t remember ever seeing a worse kick for a left footer, and he has absolutely no right side. 
Salem is a nice player and someone you’d have been happy to use a pick somewhere between 10 & 20 on.  Hunt is not quite AFL standard and will be delisted and not picked up by another Club.

Certainly not a win, but Kelly is nowhere. Averaging 22 disposals this year. Had a few nice seasons and got his hefty contract and shut up shop. I'd say this year there's not a great deal of difference between Kelly and Salem, so to say it's been a massive fail I think is incorrect.

Tyson also gave us some solid football before he grew superfluous to our needs with our strong midfield.

Kelly would absolutely walk into our side because he's the sort of player we lack, but there's not a great deal between Kelly and Salem anymore.

I think the kid needs a commanding forward to tell him where and when to run. It cant be easy but a bit concerned he rushes things. It is like he is playing a fast, fast pace with other indigenous players.

I haven't been as bullish on Taylor for quite some time now, feels like he loves a gamble. Rivers is good but a fairly easy choice at the time. If I were the club I'd let go Goodwin, Mahoney and Taylor. Look to successful organisations like Geelong, Brisbane and Hawthorn.

If we took Rivers at 12 and Kozzie at 32, it all looks happy days 

When you are coming off a loss or two, all recruiters look shocking.

Certainly the decision to draft another ruckman (Jackson) when you have the best in the game seemed strange at the time, but given we now know that Jackson has the mobility to play as a key forward, then it doesn't seem strange and looks like a wise choice - particularly as we traded out of the tall draft of 2018 when the Kings were on offer.

I also was critical (sight unseen) of the need for another really small forward (Pickett) for a list that already had five small forwards (Spargo, ANB, Bedford, Hunt, Chandler), but once I saw that Kossie had explosive pace that only Hunt could match, then I was happy to accept the overkill in the quest for this role.

And Rivers more than compensates for overlooking talented local Hayden Young, whose debut year for Fremantle has not really gone to plan for them. On what he's done so far, Rivers is our find of the year.

So Taylor gets a huge thumbs up at the draft table last year, even if his 2018 year was pretty average.

Clearly we won't have high picks this year so I just hope for two things.

1) Under no circumstances should we be drafting another small forward - we have more than enough and in Pickett we hopefully have one that develops into a star.

2) We draft at least one mobile tall - I accept that this will be highly speculative but we need a new project tall. Petty fits that description as well, should he get back on the park.

The other draft picks should be best available and ideally mix grunt, speed and kicking skills.

Jackson is not a natural forward. He is a ruck/follower.

Kozzie having the pace of Hunt is meaningless if he cant get the footy and better compose himself.

Rivers was  good choice.

Remember blokes like Taylor are paid handsomely and they dont pick these kids out of the back blocks. They are on show all year. We need to kick  goals and we have missed the opportunity to draft a future key forward.

1. A tall young 23 year old KPF with no agility who got 2 touches last week

2. An old lumbering KPF who can barely jump off the ground

3. A skinny small forward who leads to the pockets, can't kick and rocks up to training late

 

Desperately need a big KPF, by far our biggest need

Agree with most of this, but disagree on the point about small forwards. I'd be clearing out a lot of those guys you mention. Spargo stays as he is at least a natural footballer, the rest need to go. It's time we looked at natural goal kickers with speed, who happen to be able to apply forward pressure.

Why does spargo stay? I know he is young and all but he doesn't seem to have any AFL traits. I know there's others on the list before him to go but I dont see him being a part of our future

Re watch some of our 2018 games, in particular the finals.

He knows how to get involved in scoring chains. He's a natural. I don't think our forward system is particularly conducive to many of our smalls.

We got Jackson, Pickett and Rivers out of our last draft.

I'd say that was a clear win.

Jackson and rivers very happy with. But very doubtful as to pickett costing us a first and second round pick. I think he will be a good player but he cost us too much 

I like JT.       Coaches/player development letting him down.
