Being the lack of visibility of development this year surely its a great time to have concentrated picks in the 25-60 range where you may chance late developing kids who could not show their wares this year. Even some players don’t really show out as much until the champs when the quality rises around them or they are forced to play a different role than at club level. Think of how many bolters  there have been due to the championship or post champs that have shot in from 25-40 or further range to be top 10 or top 25.

Its also likely that due to numerous Academy/FS picks in the top 25, club's 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders will be gobbled up for points. So picks 47, 60 and 62 could end up being 10-15 picks higher

Edit. I also believe GWS come in with a deficit carried over from last year. Not 100% sure though.

Bulldogs will likely use up 9 and some of 38 if they want to match the lad tipped to go 1, assuming Crows or Norf bid for him

if the dogs and the filth are smart they'll work a way to 'game' the system for 2020 and 2021 so that the pies end up holding the dogs' 2020 first rounder and the filth the dogs' 2021 first rounder so that they use back-ended points in picking the kids who're rated likely #1 picks in their respective years that they have early access to them

i have no probs with the pies getting access to the latest daicos coming thru next year, but the dogs having priority on jamara ugle-hagan is just absurd

I think clubs did that a year or 2 ago and the AFL "integrity" dept then banned thst kind of blatant draft manipulation

Good resource here for draft pick order that @Whispering_Jack has also provided above:

https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2020-nominal-draft-order-live-based-on-current-ladder.1229399/page-2

Cal Twomey has 8 Academy players in his most recent top 25 at 1 (Dogs), 8 (Sydney), 11 (Port), 13 (GC), 15 (Sydney), 16 (Collingwood), 20 (GC) and 25 (Hawthorn)

https://www.afl.com.au/news/493042/cal-twomey-s-2020-phantom-form-guide-september-update

Dogs will use pick 12 to get Ugle-Hagan at 1 so that will bring other picks after 12 in by one.

Sydney x 2, Port, GC x 2, Collingwood, Hawthorn will presumably use later picks to match so that will push other picks out by 7.

So on that basis our 22 would be pushed out to 28 (net 6 loss).

Just need Adelaide and North to bid on the NGA and F/S picks so at least the best of the rest will still be in the draft.  I thought Adelaide had a F/S that was pretty highly rated as will.  Need to limit clubs to using their first round picks and not handing them a first round pick and using later picks for these NGA players.

Gives those clubs with top end kids the opportunity to be super aggressive at trade week.  Really the dogs/Syd/Pies will trade out their first round pick don't need it guaranteed player all they need is a points to cover through second and third round, worse case for them the get a club like us to trade our 2021 first pick for their 2020 pick.  I don't think clubs will like future trading 2021 picks though with the NGA's gone

Our Pick 10 now with North is unlikely to be pushed out much - maybe 2 picks to pick 12.  Pickett for 2020 pick 12 is looking OK - a year of development into him.

It looks ok because we drafted well and have won enough games this year (with no injuries). Just because you win at blackjack doesn't mean you are a good player.

Sydney currently pick 4 and Collingwood currently pick 14 will take both those picks before needing to bid on their NGA according to the Twomey order and use later picks to match the bids.

We made the trade with a plan to draft Pickett and on the belief that we would rise up the ladder - looks like things have gone pretty much according to plan.

Wow picks 47,62 and 63 will be like picking with a pin in this year of no form as a guide. Glad it is not up to me.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
