i am impressed with the Chairman though. He expects finals and suggests that change will be made if that’s not achieved. I think we are lucky to have him running the place, and glad that he seems so invested in achieving success for us.

One IS the Grand-Final specialist  and the other is a great basketball centre.   

Strong marks and crashing packs are most important for the Big men.  Aggro...  And to ensure the opposing ruck does not get off his leash.

All the athlete rucks we've had are useless for premierships.  They look great and gives a feel-good for their graceful methods.  White or Steven King of the Cats.  Steven King better and most effective.

Now Stynes had some aggression, and he would move thru packs and would jump into packs.  Steve O'Dwyer had plenty of aggression, and was a good contested mark.   Again I cannot remember him smashing packs apart,  because of the giraffe legs IMO.

 

So this brings us back to PWright.    Who is in the seconds I think.  As a potential eventual replacement for TMc. 

So a combo of Wright and Weide with help from Jackson looking ahead.

Weide the forward who can ruck.

Wright the power forward who can ruck.

Jackson the athletic ruck/follower who can be a forward.

 

This setup would go with our developing small forwards.

 

Please,  no more bean pole ruckmen,  Mfc recruiters.  We want/need big aggression in our big men.

I understand your point. Love Max but feel that following your theory it is a shame in a way that our best player is a ruckman.  I had hopes preuss could be that crash and bash ruckman to let Max go forward and create havoc.

Many of the best bash-crash effective ruckmen,  are just heavy set and 196/198Cms, which allows then to be heavy and mobile as well.  So more weight/power is packed into every 10Cms of height, than the Giraffes.

These guys can flatten or push packs aside.

And up forward the same,  they can impact the contest taking that big grab,  or by aiding the full forward to get the grab.

Its what we lack is the symbiosis between teammates.

 

Same in the middle, with our on-ballers,  they all seem to play as individuals too much,  instead, not enough screening, blocking, shepherding.   A lack of this going on, amongst the Egos in there.

So Max's forte` of hit-outs,  is not being utilised to our benefit.

Preuss is a powerful unit.

Unfortunately he isn't much of a footballer.

Yes,  but Prueuss is an insurance policy, against injury to Max.

 

We need a Top-line old fashioned ruck, who does his best work around the ground marking plenty,  and feed off to running players. If we have this player then our smaller players will learn to expect they will get the hand off and they can be away with the footy.   Run breaks up set defences.   And change of direction run changes it more.

 

We ought be looking at Wright,  and for a a young aggressive kid who is a special mark, with great hands, to learn this role.  To follow thru from Bradtke. Or beside him.

Now, do we have trades available.    Who would you consider trading,  out of our mature tall players, who carry value to other teams.?

I don't know whether he's the right guy either Duke but as an organisation I feel we have the right hands on the tiller at present. To hear that we're 'just' a million bucks (give or take) away from being an unassisted club is a really big thing for us. Particularly when recent events are factored in. That said I still wish that Peter Jackson was involved as he just had that 'take no prisoners' presence about him. 

As for this site I really enjoy the gallows humour from some of our witty raconteurs as well as the interesting facts and conspiracy theories from others. It's just a shame that so many of the current threads descend into that bottomless pit of negativity that Roosy used to mention, cathartic though it may be for some posters.

There is no definitive pattern there for what type of ruck 'wins premierships' or even tends to make it grand finals. Some of the winners there had dog days, others were among their teams best in a loss.

My only concern with the ruck and with Gawn's contribution is that the communication is missing a beat and the hitouts which should be giving us great quality as well as quantity of clearances are instead giving us mixed results because players don't know where each other are going to be.

On this particular matter, I'm willing to put some blame to the shutdown and not being able to train together, and I'm willing to watch the team play together and re-connect in the coming weeks.

As for how this relates to the 'Goodwin boosting' thread... I would argue that this, and the dropped marks up forward, and the fact that we do not yet have a player with more than two contested marks for the season, are all things which Goodwin himself has only limited control over and our season is far too new and unclear at this point to be scratching at his scalp over a 3 point loss!

 

Funny this thread has only 11 posts versus 194 on the opposite proposition.

I don't see any beanpole rucks in that lot.  There are some tall players but not really beanpole.

Sandilands escapes this because of his heavy set build.   So can move others aside.

What i'm talking about is a 'power to height' ratio.  Or the lacking of,  in beanpoles.

 

I wouldn't go after a ruck with Sandilands size, because he is too big for agility and to get about well enough.  I guess my model of mix of all good attributes is Grundy.  But he is a genuine 1st ruck.

 

What i'm getting at is a hybrid ruck/power-forward.   So while we have a 1st ruck, this model gives us the ideal assistant tall.  But must be all out aggression.

Keating was a September specialist, don't know how he would help us then!

As for Wright, he has no aggression whatsoever. He would partner very well with Weids, we would have the 'nicest' key forwards in the game.

Has the size and likely availability,  but i can't say i have seen him play much.  That parts the clubs duty and responsibility.

 

I am one of those who has turned the TV footy off, over the past 6 or 7 years.  So I have to ask others to get their impressions. 

But you can see my hope for a certain type of heavy power-forward,  of at least 197cms+.   And not more than 203cms ideally.

hahah! This is the complete opposite of Peter Wright. For a guy who's a huge lump of a lad, he is soft as they come.

This was his biggest criticism when clubs were interviewing him back in his pre draft days.

You keep banging on how we should be chasing Wright, but the bloke is a soft potato.
