No he was playing forward in a couple of the clips.

Bradtke was playing too. Surely Weid would have played some time up forward?

Jackson playing too (at least a tiny bit), so yeah not sure now!

Didn't notice Weid forward a lot, he did have that nice hitout to Bennell for his 2nd though I tihnk.

I saw Jackson warming up as an emergency.  I highly doubt he played.

Was probably playing in the ruck given Brown was forward and Jackson was a designated emergency.

Jackson was playing in the scratch match, not sure of his minutes though.

Yeah added another comment after that one after I noticed him. Looked like maybe he only played the first quarter potentially?

i'm not sure what you can take out of that game. I think it was only 14 a side and there didn't look to be too much pressure about and plenty of open space instead. Bennell looks a class above most our players as a finisher around goals though.

Sounds exactly like the seniors, so can probably judge both games the same...

I think you're right there.

Weid did have a good tap down to Bennell for a goal, but I want to see him clunking them, not rucking.

Same mate, but hard to judge that without seeing the actual game and what his role was.

Re Brown how can he be worse than the lot running around in the seniors the last two games?
simple fact he kicked three goals and in a team that cannot score that says he should be in the seniors.

watch round 1 for your answer

In Weid's defense, he could have been clunking them all day long but that won't make the goals only highlights reel.

Hopefully a detailed write-up will be posted soon.

So he is the only one not allowed to have a bad game? If we recruited him knowing he was that bad why did we bother. Says lots about the FD.

Don't hold your breath. One of the serious problems for the league is how do the players not selected in the seniors get form when they are playing in Mickey mouse games of 14 players. Another month goes by and teams get a few injuries what happens then? 12 or 10 a side?

Strange times...

does anyone know if the Swans "reserves" play GWS each week or do they fly around as well?

So that's it then? Has 1 poor game (in a game where very few players weren't poor) and we write him off for selection in perpetuity despite any other available form since? Fess up, you're on the selection committee aren't you?

Sadly nothing from Weidemann

He hasn't really featured in anything much this "season" . He's a bit of a mystery man.

However, if Brown or Jackson get selected as an extra tall before him this week, his future at Melbourne is looking grim

Love it LN. So much I put it in twice. IT is painfully obvious we have no forward coach how else can you explain the selections. I think they are picking them with a pin.

And what does that say about the MFC FD we extend his contract last year?

I admit it. ha

I'm biased, I just don't rate him. At least others have some credits in the bank based on previous good performances

strange recruit for sure. Bombers are crying out for a tall fwd and they cut him

I would play Jackson ahead of him.  then he can give Max a hand in the ruck too

So why the hell did we not trade him out last year? No he is so good we extended his contract.

I was talkin Brown.  I still have hope that Weed can become a decent player. he has talent but maybe its the mental side of the game

Unless Weideman's training and scratch match performances make him impossible to overlook, I'd prefer to play Jackson, too, but just as a tall forward. I thought Tomlinson was more than handy in the Gawn support role.  And if Weideman plays, I would also leave him in the forward line all game.

I don't either mate, but I'm just super keen for us to pick on more than reputation and favouritism.

Oh Bennell was dropped because he could only play half a game in the seniors well I think it is obvious his half a game is better than a number who played a full game. He kicks one goal we win.

Wasn't having a go at Brown OD, just saying that if all he did all day was kick 2 goals and nothing else well then it's not much to get excited about. Thanks also for filling me in about Bennell, I hadn't seen the numerous threads or news conferences in which this was discussed.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
