What happens if there is a spike in cases in NSW over the next few weeks which wouldn’t be out of the realms of possibilities? Season surely cancelled.

Pretty sure home games have been thrown out the window. The AFL just wants games played for $.

Agree, except I can't see why they would make us "host" GWS or Sydney at their home ground.

We'll end up having "home" games in other states. So long as they're against other random clubs (e.g. we host Adelaide in Sydney or we host the Dogs in Alice Springs), that's completely fine with me.

There is a lot the AFL can't control in this season but one thing they can control is not making sides "host" their opponents at their opponent's own home ground.

A real risk, IMO.

Victoria's current problem stems from two things: bad management of hotel quarantine, and bad luck.

NSW has the first one under better control, but I suspect it's more likely than not that the second one will hit at some point.

At least that Hawthorn game should be on FTA for us. Which is inexplicable given how we're playing.

I’d say we can thank Hawthorn for us being on FTA rather than the AFL deliberately putting us on FTA.

Hopefully GC cop a belting tomorrow night, lose confidence and our game against them can be more of a 50/50 affair.

Sensible move, which is within a bee’s appendage of being too late. The only alternative is to abandon the season.

GF should be played at the home ground of the highest ranking team. Hopefully that becomes a lasting change, in the era of a supposedly national competition, there is no reason for the MCG to have dibs on every grand final and this is proof.

Well, apart from the contract with the MCC that is.

That’s to cater for the WC v Adelaide game which starts at 3:20pm.

so you mean we start when it finishes? not sure how that caters for the previous game.

very strange to have a 6pm game. no-one will be watching aside from us diehards

Why,  you don't think we can shut them down and rebound on them.   And Win.

Saints have been fantastic this season aside from the one game they didn’t play at Marvel.

They'll be on the road for weeks so that will determine if they’re the real deal.

Yes I would, by Friday I’m over it ..... sometimes lol

Good luck with that one. There is a 30 year contract in place and works projected at the ground based on that income stream.

Because they have a coach who is more than one Dimensional. And they have forwards who kick goals.

You can tall all of this,  after 3 or 4 games.

You should be Coa ching,  'od'.

No but I can tell from Goodwin's 3+ years and Ratten's Time at Carlton and when he was a line coach at the Dees.

I'm probably an outlier, but I don't mind Sunday games for this very reason.

Sunday lets me retain that (misguided?) hope/excitement all weekend, whereas a Thursday loss would leave me [censored] off and not wanting to watch any of the other games.

We don’t really play Thursday games so I have no real reference but I hate losing on Friday nights. Ruins the whole weekend. Never liked a Saturday loss either. Ruined Saturday nights.

Friday night wins are the best.

Apparently Round 8 1952 was a national round where exhibition matches were played all over the country.

Anyone know where the Dees played?

@Supermercado

We played Fitzroy down in North Hobart. Sadly we got done by 20 points.

is this a misprint? who plays at 6pm on a Sat night?

It’s 6:05pm. Great for people with young kids. Gives you 5 minutes to have dinner.

All good for me.

My kids demand dinner at 5:30pm so I’m set.

At least it’s a Saturday. Can do early dinner. Shower and movie by 6pm. Have some popcorn and shut up until the game is done.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
