Hope they do televise it.ย  Even the bit where the line along there shed wall and gawn and viney pick the teamsย

Did I read the Melbourne practice match was being televised, if so where?

I hope so. I've woken up really flat knowing every other club have played their required games and we have to [censored] miss out.

Even if this intra club is being streamed then [censored] that'll still do it for me!

"of course it was him" was my first response. The bloke is home sick, doesn't want to be here, and has said he'll leave end of year to go back home. Just here to see out contract and get $$ - I feel for him in this pandemic situation in wanting to be home, but he's the first candidate for being the one to not give a [censored] about the AFL season being postponed or cancelled. And not a surprise was had when he tested positive.

Not sure why we are being penalised for Essendonโ€™s infraction.ย

ย We should be given the forfeit.ย

ย Why should our other matches be compromised by shorter breaks to accommodate Essendon & the AFL.ย

ย Guaranteed we will be worse off than the Bombers once the next installment of the draw comes out.ย

This locks it in now to being ย preparation for individuals and team systems 'in game' to getย a clear run for 2021...I'd dare say all other teams have that focus now too.ย

I've had that feeling ever since the season was disrupted, shortened games etc.ย  I know other have said a flags a flag, but even if we somehow stumbled over the line and won the premiership, it would feel like a hollow rubbish one.

Especially if we canโ€™t be there to see it. Would feel like a night/preseason comp win. Asterisk.

Im confused: is the mid season or r24 bye a penalty? This idea of forfeiture for 4 points over a week rest is wishful thinking.

The only forfeiture I'm hoping for is WCE sooking and throwing in the towel for '20 over the hub/border situation and gifting all 17 clubs 4 points (us retrospective r1 points)

Can someone tell me why Dwayne Russell implied a couple of times tonight that the Melbourne v Geelong (in addition to the Essendon V Carlton game) game next week is in doubt?

Whatโ€™s McKennaโ€™s positive test got to with us, in terms of next week,ย ย considering all other games are going ahead for the time being.

Essendon's game next week could be in serious doubt though, particularly if another of their players were to test positive to either corona ... or peptides.

I think the nature of the testing potentials for error means that game is in doubt, irrespective if all players have negative results in next 5 days.

Iโ€™d like to hear our President make a little bit of noise about this.ย

Can you imagine Eddieโ€™s response if their game had been postponed because of their opposition?

Heโ€™d go ape [censored] and demand the 4 points.ย

He wouldnโ€™t put up with a compromised draw especially when no other teams areย on the same level playing field. [Obviously ignoring the leg up they already get by not traveling as much as other teams and playing on the MCG most weeks.]

Time for our leadership to grow some balls and stand up for us.ย

Mark my words. Weโ€™d get screwed out of those 4 points too.ย

are they televising the scratch match or is it streamable online?

Do we even know if there is a mid season bye or even a break before finals in this shortened season?

ย Also who knows how many matches Essendon will have to postpone as a result causing us to have shorter breaks at some point when most other teams wonโ€™t be penalised in the same way.ย

ย Remember weโ€™ve done nothing wrong here and we could be punished as a result.ย

ย We also lose all our momentum from our win last week.ย

There is going to be multiple byes throughout the season to accommodate teams moving back to WA and SA. I would say itโ€™s likely we will play the dons after the swans.

They may have a few weeks with no WCE or Freo, and 4-5 games whilst new teams isolate in the WA or SA hubs.

It may not be fair now, but this season will have lots of swings and roundabouts.

Fair call. It's a [censored] shambles currently. So we don't know, but i still think it's wishfull thinking. Gils said it's a 170 or so game season, not a 17 round season, so we just hope it evens out when next blocks are announced, and we have some 5-6 day turnarounds and deal with it. Better than playing 4-6 games in soapy confition in qldย

However, maybe an additional point to @Kelpien I'm no history buff, but it seems the 4pt forfeiture is a very non VFL/AFL phenomenon in my 30 years watching. Not like NRL where they took premierships off teams. We never stripped anything for salary cap breaches. Crime pays. Even when EFC were disqualified in 2013 from finals, youd think they'd need to apply an equalisation to redistribute points to teams that lost to them. But then there were double up games, so it's mathematically complicated. Fines and draft picks is about as far as the AFL is prepared to go.

Looks like we will just play our round 3 later in the year. With ess v Carl and us v Geelong to go ahead as normal next weekend.ย

I'm sorry but this is complete BS. Yes there is ambiguity over when this irregular test came back but the fact is HE WAS at their club and in contact with staff and players after a irregular test. Be it for a training session or just for 20 minutes, he was there. This is essendons problem now, they will need to self isolate for 14 days (how can they not?!) Tough pill to swallow but for the comp and their fans but they need to forfeit until they can show clean tests on all players and staff 14 days from now.ย

This would be a different story if they did the right thing and make Connor self isolate as soon as the irregular test came back. But they pushed the boundaries let him train (or hang out at the club for 20 minutes) potentially infecting many.ย

Sorry Essendon you [censored] up again. Price you pay for incompetence.

I hate to defend Essendon but they didnt let him hang around for 20mins after they got the result.ย  He was there for 20 mins before the result arrived, then was told to bugger off home.ย  So we are told, though we're not told who he is living with etc. as yet.

I think people are forgetting weโ€™re very lucky we had 2 players break rules but not pick anything up... what if it was Melb player/s who picked it up?ย

If that's really the case, why isnt the protocol to wait until the test results come back before allowing anyone into the club.ย

I'm starting to think that might be harsh on a pre season comp, it would feel to meย like a lightening premiership at juniors level.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... itโ€™s time to discuss this weekโ€™s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliverโ€™s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line โ€ฆ Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the clubโ€™s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the clubโ€™s perspective, and the teamโ€™s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarksonโ€™s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed โ€” roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.ย  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
