Brayshaw’s kicking still worries me. In his first year I thought he was going to be an out and out star, not that sure anymore. We are currently playing AVB and Jones on the wing and we have Sparrow as a good inside prospect coming through.  Brayshaw is contracted to 2022. If someone comes for him and we can get a good outside ball user we need to look at it. Offer must be good though. 

Also to note - 2 weeks ago he seemed to have little currency.

I think Viney and Oliver clash, rather than compliment. Viney often goes for the same first ball as Oliver and Petracca. It's why I want far less minutes from Jack and for him to be a lot smarter in the contest.

Ironically, I actually think Gus and Viney can play in the same midfield, but I'd compliment them with a player like Harmes in that mix.

If it were as easy as saying goodbye to Jack that would be my preference because I think Oliver, Petracca and Gus compliment each other much more, but if we're being realistic, the club is not going to allow Jack to leave.

Therefore, it's up to the coaches and players to make this work.

I wouldn't take minutes away from Petracca in the midfield, I'd just take the majority of Jack's minutes away from him and get him to go to forward half stoppages and occasionally bursts in the midfield at the end of quarters or at strategic moments in the game, otherwise I'd have him as a pressure forward.

But each to their own. : )

the other thing  that is no doubt hurting Gus is the shorter quarters ultimately means the best side in the coaches mind can spend a higher % of the game in their preffered positions without the need to rotate

In saying that if we don't change the rotations to give GUS a look in, he'd be silly not to look elsewhere, he'd play his position every week at the blues and probably get paid significantly better to do it.

Not surprised there would be a queue for him and that they think we would get a top 12 draft pick and/or a very good player.  It is only on DL that he is not valued by many.  Only a few on here have not wavered in their believe in him year in and year out.  Sigh...

Tbh I'd rather keep Gus than get any draft pick even top #12.  We need max synergy from the midfield as a whole and not just the best of each player. 

We have the rest of the season to ensure Gus wants to stay.  Desperately hope he is in red and blue in 2021.

I heard this exchange as well.  My take is that Whateley is a big fan of Brayshaw and continues to ask these questions as he wants him at Geelong for when their star midfielders retire.

What I found interesting was that Lewis said how much he thought of Jack... but went on to say he needs to find another position to pay (outside the centre square) as that's brayshaw's best position.  But it was reported that he said to play Brayshaw on the wing.  Anyone have a  link to the audio?

Instead of properly analysing the game, most of these commentators are only concerned with muck-racking in regards to player trades or coach sackings. Given the amount of AFL journalists out there I reckon it's a disgrace. You're paid to discuss and analyse the game, instead we're half way through a season and they're talking about trades.

With both Sparrow and Jordon waiting in the wings as potential quality inside mids, I think we should definitely consider trading Brayshaw, but only if it's a genuine win-win and not for a draft pick. We need an instant best 22 outside runner. So looking through teams that need quality on-ballers these are the options I'd consider:

Sydney - Oliver Florent straight swap. Would absolutely do this and they need a replacement for Kennedy inside.

Essendon - Darcy Parish springs to mind as an outside runner. Prefer Florent but not out of the question.

Carlton - Zac Fisher could be an option here, thought I'd want something additional back.

Fremantle - Adam Cerra. Hasn't really got going yet at Freo but maybe a move back home will help ignite his career.

Saints - in the hunt for another midfielder so may come knocking. Can't see what they can offer as a direct swap other than someone like Hunter Clark but that isn't happening. May need to be a first round pick plus someone like Sinclair.

My preference would be in the following order:

I just listened to the audio and you are quite right; the written report showed only the Brayshaw on the wing part.

I suspect Lewis wants to keep both Viney and Brayshaw but when it comes down to a choice he would trade Brayshaw.  I hope our coaches find a way to keep both. 

Won't like it but would understand if Brayshaw decides to go.  Owes it to himself to become the best he can be.

I think Hudson may also be a geelong supporter so yeah, maybe there was quite a vested interest there.

Setting the bar low mate...

The only one on that list I would consider is Cerra.

...and Freo are not in desperate need of an inside mid.

EFC are desperate, so as I said earlier the only win/win there is Merrett but they're too dumb to seek win/win trades

I rate brayshaw very highly because he offers something different to our other inside mids. For mine let viney walk and use the money to get zac williams. 

Also not sure why people on here are keen on players like merrett and cerra, trading brayshaw for an inside mid doesn't solve the problem at all we'd just be playing them out of position. We need small defenders to replace jetta and hibberd, and/or another classy small forward.

I would not trade Angus for any of those players because he has good chemistry with Petracca and Oliver, he has not even played 100 games and his progress to elite midfielder was hampered by his concussion problems.

If you remember his 2018 season the upside is tremendous where as the players mention have not got a huge upside except Cerra.

Not interested in picks for Gus. We’d need to get a ready made player of significant quality (like a Papley or a Nick Haynes)

As I have said all along, when Gus is playing well we are a significantly better side. He is a wonderful user of the footy both by hand and foot and is a great reader of the play. We are better when Gus is in the trenches. End of story. 
If you trade him we better get a 60 goal a season forward or an AA CHB.

Why oh why would we even entertain or be thinking about this issue when we saw the Fabulous four demonstrate what they are capable of tonight. They were working with a losing ( but competitive) ruck against three of the best midfielders in AFL ( Sidebotton, Pendlebury & Adams) .

SInce Clarrie has decided that if he moves into top gear not many people catch him . Viney's game tonight gave us real grunt wewhen needed. Petracca  ahs gone into elite category. & Gus is the bloke who sets the plays up by putting the ball into a better position by his decision making (and ability to work both sides of his body) .,  It is amazing that when Gus is on song our game flows !!!  

Plus Langdon has provided the outside run we were looking for. And I must admit May is as good a player as the brains trust @MFC thought.

Now we have them complementing each other why would you swap for a "might be"

He has a great knack of taking up offensive positions in the corridor. He seems to receive the ball a lot in that area and we launch attacks through the corridor through him.

I love him. Needs to play majority midfield with Oliver (says broken record).

Gus plays well when the team plays well.
