Increase in membership?

I am currently a member of the MCC but not of the MFC, a letter from the MCC arrived to day about the new 40$ memberships for MCC who want to become offficial MFC members. they estimate there to be about 18,000 MCC members who follow the demons but are not MFC members. i was delighted to receive these forms.

how many memebers do we intend to gain from this ? and how many do u think we will gain?

i reallly think this is a good idea.

I heard at the weekend that the Western Bulldogs already had 23,000 members signed up by the weekend and they expect to finish on 32,000.

It was only a few years ago that the MFC had thousands more members than the Bullies. I can't understand why we're lagging behind them. It's not as if they'be been more successful than us in recent times. Surely, it's not just the Akermanis factor?

It's because apart from a very small pocket of supporters (probably the thousand or so who visit this place regularly), the rest of our 'supporters' are fickle, disloyal and jump off the bandwagon quicker than Paris Hilton jumps into bed.

I'm sure many of them expected a flag last year or the year before, and when that didn't happen, many of them jumped off. I'm sure they'll be lining up for Grand Final tickets though

I'm very confident that this intiative will have a substantial impact upon membership numbers. The $40 option was provided for the last few years but it wasn't counted as an official membership, and hence really served no purpose, short of a donation to warm the hearts of MCC members.

Much different kettle of fish when it is counted. We should get to 30 odd thousand this year, and hopefully build on that in years to come.

Surely to go down on the official membership tally the MFC would have to get more than $40. Its an absolute disgrace how many MCC members we have that constantly fail to get a MFC membership. That is the reason we had to sell a home game to Bris year in year out. We should be getting 30,000+ members every year and be regarded up there with the heavyweights and not languishing behind with the Kangaroos struggling to keep up with the rest of the competition.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
