Geez thats a 1987 preseason game and its better quality than the crap dished up in an actual season in the last 15 years.

And unpopular opinion -  I miss Waverley Park.  Some great memories there.

Played during the season

no complaints then about short turn arounds.

It was of course a night comp and it was the only fully televised game each week. It wasn't a Mickey Mouse comp.

It was a tough Comp

we were mid table on the ladder at the time of the game

That game was the beginning of our resurgence, which lasted, with vicissitudes, until the early 2000s.

Northey could turn ordinary footballers into dedicated ,reliable members of the team.

(eg Chiron, Duursma,Koop.) He made Yeats, Bailey and Campbell into good league footballers.

Can you put up the second half?

I'd just like to congratulate Jumping Jack Clennett for being the first to ever use that wonderful word "vicissitude" in a post.

Do you remember when I used the word "panegyric" in regard to Judd's retirement. Demonlanders liked that, too.

( I was saying how we should remember his eye gouging and chicken-winging, before praising him too much for his footy career)

One of my favourite memories- I was 14 years old. I attended the game with my Dad, my older brother and my younger brother, the three older males big Dees fans. My younger brother had jumped ship a couple of years earlier to barrack for Essendon which had won a couple of real premierships.

My memory is of the Dees hanging on desperately in a last quarter that went 25min 42secs. And then celebrating while being so mindful of my younger brother. I thought we were so gentle with him. We made it nearly all the way home when he burst into tears. It seemed so incongruous to me- up until then we'd won nothing- had not even made finals in my lifetime.

Of course this VFL Park experience was followed later that year with the tragic prelim final loss in Robbies final game. ... So pleased he got to play finals.

Sparkes and Ryan played well, yet I barely remember them.

We ended up with quite a bit of talent out injured in the Prelim.

eg Lyon and  Connolly,( can’t remember the others). I notice Flower was missing from the Nat. Panasonic Cup. Danny Hughes made mention of Connolly in his victory speech, and made sure Robbie shared the glory. The fantastic team spirit of that group really shone through in that night final.

It very nearly took us through to a proper Premiership.
We  had some tough players in Hughes, Grinter and Spalding.

Alan Johnson to Steven Stretch

Be still my beating heart.......

And Sean Wight. Hard as nails with a leap like Shaun Smith and could play at Full Back or Full Forward just like Steven Silvagni.

The one good thing about getting old is that you can carry wonderful memories with you. These guys sure gave me that.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
