Crows copping $100k fine and losing two draft picks apparently, according to Tom Browne

Ridiculous. I would be fuming if I were a crows supporter

other reporters saying it's bollocks; no picks involved in the penalties

Not picks but should definitely be points.

A fine would be counterproductive in the current environment.

A one game penalty would be right.

Victoria’s premier has provided an update on the state’s restrictions.

Meanwhile, a punishment for the Crows could come today and opinion is divided over a suitable sanction.

so training from Wednesday but the WA govt still playing hardball on fifo teams

Must say I wonder how the interstate clubs are going to be able to afford what are effectively chartered flights every second week.

Virgin gone as a major sponsor plus the TV rights money being reduced proportionately at least.

So no points, draft picks or big fine for the Crows.  Tom Browne at his finest!

one coach misses 6 weeks.  that's it.

How do we ensure we play the Crows Round 2?

I hope like hell we don’t play them round 2,  unfortunately the exact type of game we lose.

you could see it coming that the coach would take the fall.

So much for player responsibility... hard to believe that one of them didn't say... hey is this okay ???

nah. we'd win. a distinctively Melbourne thing to happen would be we come back strong and sit atop the ladder at the end of the H&A. then a second outbreak occurs, the season is cancelled and we miss our chance. again.

Getting strong Milwaukee Bucks vibes about this season. Best record in the league. Small club (relative). Strong chance for the championship, first in decades. And then BOOM. Pandemic.

See that North are asking to play four games in Hobart (for the money) and Hawks will probably push for a few.

What tells me that we will draw the short straw yet again.

TBH not sure why Tas Govt would want to pay for crowd free games.

Media companies are asking the EPL for a refund of 345 M (not sure if its pounds or US dollars)

Only thing I can surmise with North wanting more games (in a shortened season) in Tassie is a competitive advantage with knowing how to play the conditions there. I’m just wondering if perhaps we might consider doing two back to back games in Alice Springs, particularly if crowds are allowed back up there. Against say Bulldogs, Saints, Sydney etc though. I get sick of them sending Adelaide and Perth teams there when they have the existing support.

North want the money...that's the main reason. It's worth around 2M to them but if I was the Tas Gov I'd be offering them around 500k. What is the economic benefit to the state of having crowd free matches on a fifo basis. Ground advertising and a bit of brand awareness at most.

As to us in Alice... I'm neutral as long as the travel is reasonable. Who we play is irrelevant as there will be no crowds. If the NT allow crowds the team would be mad to play there.... so wrong to have crowds this year

Remember also most teams will probably need to charter and pay for aircraft.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
