When do they play it? Preseason or mid year?

I don’t care, but seeing the skill level is wonderful, the lack of intensity a much less so.

Neville... sorry Sir Neville... what a gun he is!

It's a fantastic standard and a great showcase tonight.  Here's how you sell the sport to new eyes.

I really envy what they do up North with the State of Origin Rugby League.

It might work in the pre-season (demand-wise) if the game was for a worthy cause.  And there's plenty of worthy causes so that part of the equation is do-able at least.

But Aussie Rules fans are way too rusted on to their teams only.

Worthy cause,  players being always available,  as part of the pre-season and then embraced by the fans ongoing - big ask but I'd love to see it.

We could at least play these high standard games every now and again (every 3 or 4 years)

State of Origin will be dead forever after this shitfest.

Jetta - 7 Disposals at 100% efficiency , 4 intercept possessions and 2 score involvements.

BOG!

There's plenty of intensity ... the skill level means less congestion and more open footy

And State footy has always been like that.  Lower skills = congestion,  packs etc.

It’s all a bit... nice.

Lots of smiles, lots of open space.

Yes, it’s for a very worthy cause, but if it’s to be played again same time next year, it’d be great to see Vics vs WA or SA.

Ted Whittens legends match has more grunt than this rubbish.

Macca there is zero intensity, seeing players giggling while they have the ball looking for targets shows that.

Might as well put the sheila’s on McQ...

Josh Kelly is a freak too. Wish we could have found a way to make a play for him too.

Sadly, hindsight tells us we had two chances to take Kelly as he was a close runner-up to Hogan in the 2012 mini-draft.

Oh well!  If we had of taken Cripps at pick 9, we’d now be hailed as geniuses.

The GWS trade was a good move at the time IMHO.

They look fair dinkum to me ... the sport is basically keepings-off these days so what on earth do you expect if the most highly skilled players are all involved.

A much much better version of keepings-off.  Stands to reason

You put 2 low skilled teams against each other and you're going to see an ugly mess.  Looks more intense but it's a ruse.

Anyway,  I'm thoroughly enjoying tonight's game and if others prefer to watch 'scramble-ball',  go right ahead. Ha ha!

The “Mexican wave” wave on the crowd says otherwise to me but each to there own.
As I said from a skill level stand point I’ve loved it, it has no intensity which totally detracts from the game, it’s a fundraiser.

That's just Darren Jarman standing up.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
