WC have had an interrupted preseason with their key backs (McGovern, Barrass), and a new midfield with Kelly in there that may take time to gel. Last year we flew to the Gold Coast then to Perth on a 6 day turnaround and should have beaten them despite our injuries and poor form.  This year we have no excuses. We won’t get a better chance to win over there than round 1.

I agree Watto also West Coast have looked underdone in both Essendon and Freo games.  I think we will lead in close game at half time and run over them in second half by 8 goals +

My only glimmer of hope that we could pull a win out of our backsides is that from memory the weagles don’t always start the season well.

So heres hoping.

Optus Stadium could be empty of spectators if the virus situation doesn't improve.

Margetts will be totally confused without the advice of his mates in the stands.

An empty Optus stadium in round one would be a sight to behold!
If the game could also be umpire free even better!

Then you’ve removed two massive Eagle advantages!

You omitted the third advantage: the non-retribution from Christian in the post-game, 'fair-play' wrap-up after Clarry has his head knocked off once again by deliberate action of a beaten opponent from the Weagles.

"Will Schofield says the Eagles are prepared to face Melbourne without a crowd to cheer them on"

Of course he's gonna say that to the media  ...........  in the full knowledge that he and his team mates are already making a disproportionate contribution to the national shortage of toilet paper.

Seriously? I'd heard that to compensate for the zero supply of toilet paper over in WA that they had come up with their own solution to the worsening problem: the Weagles have had a brainwave, selecting across the board to use Tally Ho cigarette papers instead of reaching for the Sorbent. Apparently, it saves on wasted paper, as well.

However they'll have to use additional hand sanitiser to remove the smell from their fingers

West Coast Eagles

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Oscar Allen  Ankle  Test
Jarrod Cameron  Pubic bone  5-7 weeks
 Tom Cole  Thumb  5-7 weeks
 Jack Darling  Cheekbone  Test
 Luke Foley  Pubic bone  TBC
 Daniel Venables  Concussion  Season
Updated: Tuesday, March 17

Early prognosis

Allen was part of the 'A' team during Friday's match simulation and is now looking likely to play in round one. Darling was best on track in that session, according to Luke Shuey, and also looks set for the season-opener. Cameron is expected to miss up to eight weeks with the pubic bone stress injury that has hampered him previously. Cole's fractured thumb is a medium-term concern, but the defender will be able to maintain fitness during his rehab. - Nathan Schmook

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
