I understand this part of it, but what I don't quite understand is how MFC is tied in with Mount Scopus.

Do we share board members? Are there coterie and donors attached to the college and the MFC? Or is it simply interest in the same parcel of land tying the two together?

The One Scopus project not only involves building a new school but also a range of community facilities, including an indoor pool, gymnasium and community meeting rooms.

If the MFC were to develop a complex solely for the Cub's use, we could not expect much in the way of government funding.

But by integrating our requirements with those of Scopus and the broader Glen Eira community, a business case can attract significant government funding.

If you examine nearly every AFL club's recent training base improvements, you will find that they pretty much all enjoyed government support, but only if the broader community also benefited.

For example, Hawthorn's Kennedy Community Centre received $15mil of State Government funding on the proviso offered access to some of its facilities for a minimum of 20 hours per week. (Source: Victorian government).

As Melbourne Members & Supporters we have been trained over many decades to look at glass half empty.. hope we are proven wrong.. let’s see whilst Richmond complete their new training centre before we even start ours!

And similar to Hawthorn....this is their second one/redevelopment while we have nothing to show. The glass is totally empty.

I don’t see a Government contribution of say $30m being removed, as scuttling the project.

First, it would be unlikely to not get anything, if that was the figure that was originally promised, even if there was a reduction and secondly, say 30000 adult members of the MFC, if there was no other way to get the missing contribution, would only need to up their membership by $100.00 a year for 10 years to cover that whole amount.

That member contribution of course relates to the whole $30m and without any other efforts to find that amount.

I don’t see us losing a Government contribution, given the contribution made to other clubs.

Also with Tassie coming in, the TV rights will increase and the AFL may have more to provide if there was a shortfall.

Then of course there will be the extra money we will get for winning the next few flags.

Maths might be slightly out here @Redleg . 30,000 members would have to pay an additional $1,000 to get $30 million. $100 a pop would only generate $3m.

I did say for 10 years.

$100.00 a year for 10 years.

It’s a joke.. Guerra isn’t responsible of what’s happened in the past but plenty of others still on the board who along with Pert since 2018 failed to nail this! Hearing Guerra at the draft presser smiling and indicating that an announcement was coming and since then the silence is deafening..

Are you saying that if the government don’t come to the party the project is dead?

No its worse than that, Caulfield is already dead and buried and the club know it but are too scared to say it coz at this point there are zero other possibilities. Club will still be looking for a home ground for eons, what a disgrace!

Have we ever tried to link a community benefit to this project? Many other clubs have tied in community benefits to make it a more palatable sell for the government but I don't recall hearing any tie-ins with us?

I've said it before but we should be tieing in with Reach to have a community centre for disadvantaged youth, name it after Jim Stynes, it's a home run.

A page or two back I said that I will never see the completion of a permanent home PF. It beggars belief that this has been going on for decades. IMO past boards were hampered by the need for it be near the G when blindly Fredy could see that was never going to happen. It would be nice for once for the board to come out and say this is the plan and we are waiting because of X,Y and Z. Instead of the silence we have endured for decades. Oh some would say we cannot tell you because we are sworn to secretresy. I am confident that this confidentiality card is used to hide the fact we are going nowhere fast as the projects of the past has shown.

Like who? apart from Brad Green who has been there since 2020 I would say the average tennure of the current board is about 2 years

If Caulfield falls over it reinforces another huge failure of why our continues to go after so many complex locations, look at Hawthorn they found a stand alone site and made it happen, can see another decade of going around in circles

New board appointments have ben made in house or strongly endorsed if going to the vote.

The board has effectively been an "echo chamber".

So the current board do take on the legacy of bad decisions or indecision made.

completely unhelpful post- but I saw a movie at lido last night parked at Glenferrie Oval , it's so run down and unloved. All the players live over there, it's prime location, there's plenty of space. Would make so much sense to reinvigorate it with the council and make it our long term home.

Direct opposite info I have received from all three organisations either currently there, or hoping to be there.
