John Kanga has just now on RSN stated the MRC opposes Melbourne football club using the inside of the track.

Fantastic.... did he give a reason why?

Not in the interest of racing, the MRC or the residents who would lose their beloved dog park. Kanga himself apparently uses it 😂

How on earth do we get to this point in negotiations if the MRC opposes us using the inside of the track? I simply don’t understand.

As MRC Chairman his comments carry some weight!

Did they not tell mfc that or was their a loophole ...

As the $195m from Scopus wipes out the MRC's $165m debt they don't need/want us anymore..

So it’s fair to say that the MRC has limited to no involvement in any deal we’re trying to sign up to?

The MRC has always opposed the grounds inside the track having buildings like change rooms that affect the line of sight of the racing public to the track. I understand this isn't a concern to our bid because the proposed MFC lease area and buildings in the plans are outside the track.

If they unequivocally oppose it, the project is dead.

Projects have consultation, scope, risk assessment, timelines and budget. This "project" seems more and more like a cheech and chong record.

From Neos Kosmos:

'Growing up in Collingwood, he is also naturally a huge Collingwood supporter.

'He remembers the days when he used to go to Victoria Park as a kid, after his dad finished work on a Saturday, and stand on beer cans to be able to see the action.

'“That was a bonding of father and son, going to the footy, which I do with my son now, so that’s been carried forward.”

'Kanga, is a successful racehorse owner, and has tried to involve his mates at the Collingwood Football Club in racing, and according to him, “they didn’t need much convincing.”

'He counts Collingwood coach Craig McRae and list boss Justin Leppitsch among his friends, owning a number of shares in horses together, including a horse that finished second in this year’s Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.'

Very hard not to be cynical...

imv the 'Feasibility Study' was lacking key features typical of such a study which I detailed in the DL thread at the time.  Those key features seem to be deferred to the 'Business Case' phase.

I just hope the club obtained documented buy-in and agreement from critical stakeholders (inc the MRC) in the 'Feasibility' phase.  And, documented the circumstances for each of them to exit.

Don't think it effects racing in the slightest... plus he will also be able to continue walking his dog there.

Seems to just be outrage for the sake of outrage, which is very common whenever change is involved.

Not sure that Kanga is helping Coll by canning us at Caulfield.

Coll has already flagged expanding into Gosch's.  Who knows, in 3-8 years they could negotiate the moving of other codes from AAMi and take over the precinct for themselves.  They wouldl get financial and political support we could only dream about.

Correct and the Government control the Trust.

That may be their preferred position, but we are talking about a race club use, that would be about a dozen days, when they use the track and we won’t train there at those times obviously.

Can’t have footballs flying into race fields.

The rest of the year the area is a barren unused tip.

I love the fear of the 9 people who will no longer be able to walk their dogs despite the club only using a portion of the available land. The area is such a waste of land, we should be a no brainer.

But Collingwood want Goschs, so I imagine he would be getting a call from his mates.

They wouldn’t be happy if he stopped them getting Goschs.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
