Correct - our arrangement is with the CRRT directly - not the MRC (they have their own arrangement with the CRRT).

can you confirm whether the carpark area (proposed for buildings) is crrt or mrc at the moment?

My understanding is that our building is not proposed to be on the carpark area (near Caulfield station) but will be in the south-east corner closer to Glenhuntly station. It has been moved a short distance from the existing location, which would have been land-locked by the Mt Scopus campus (when built). The ovals will be where they have always been planned to be out towards the start of the back straight.

the south east corner was the penultimate proposal. The first being the west side below mt scopus, and the last proposal was the north east carpark area

There are already 2 storey buildings in the middle of course, plus bbq shelters and er ablutions block. Obviously thse dont impact race viewing. And as you say the 'back straight' is on a rise.

Been told on good authority that the plans have been approved from council. now just a matter of whos paying for it.

apologies if this has already been said in the thread

No it hasn’t. But ambitious completion dates have been provided in lieu of any approval or tangible progression.

So that’s something

Thats handy enough. my mail was that our plans were approved. maybe that they are satisfactory but it has to go a step further or something. not sure i didnt ask any more questions!

Back in my day you would build the dressing sheds next to the oval, or get changed in the car.

getting changed in the car is euphemistically how jakovich did his back in, i seem to recall

Will be interesting to see actual go-with designs as opposed to broad 'concepts'

Daisy's noting of heights does provide scope for something other than bland ovals.

Others noting existing structures does kinda provide precedence of sorts for something in the guts but I'm not thinking that much is really needed as can't see it as a viable option for anything other than training.

If you're correct - that's not ideal - the ovals will be quite a distance away. All will be revealed - eventually.

there is a tunnel from the carpark direct to the inner track area

of the the three different proposals this one offers quickest and most direct access to ovals

It took Essendon about 2 years from start of build to moving into the Hangar so don't think 2 years is too unrealistic. Just depends when they are ready to actually commence building vs planning.

Please introduce me to these tier 1 builders - the apartment building I live in has been getting a 4 week remedial works program done on the balconies, which probably should only take 2 weeks, ongoing since early July...

But at least there's no noise.

The main challenge is getting builders who will actually prioritise your site over their multitude of off-the-books work. Hopefully when its a big enough project that problem is solved, he said, naively.

Now there i a man who knows the reality of construction in Victoria

takes almost twice as long to build an average home than it did 20 years ago

BBQ Shelters, it’s a sign!

It was meet a local councillor day at the library so I met one. This is what i got out of the chat and is my opinions/interpretations.

Glen Eira is lacking in sports ovals etc so the redevelopment of the middle of the race course is a good thing. MFC having access did not seem to be an issue provided the public had access other times.

Glen Eira could manage the booking of the facilities.

The original Glen Eira plan for the the MRC land (MT Scopus) was for high rise appartments. MT Scopus is not yet guaranteed to purchase the land and it is an option only.

Impression : MFC moving there would be good for the area aand local schools. It is not a major concern.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
