Yes Guerra seems to do well at the talking part.

Meanwhile, Steven King seems to be one who will let his actions do his talking. I favour the latter.

both behavioural types are fine as long as the result is positive

I find it odd that this comes up only hours after Guerra essentially said we wouldn’t consider a Waverley move until Caufield was sorted. Some misalignment or just bad communication?

In that case the collective tears of tens of thousands of Dees supporters will eternally keep that grass green.

I vowed I would never go back to that [censored] hole and never did. If we end up back you can be sure I won't break the vow.

Exactly what I thought.

Say one thing..... do another

There's nothing at all wrong with Waverley as a base and as a training venue. In fact, if we ignore the Hawks moving away, it will be far and away the best training venue we've ever had

And everyone under the one roof which will satisfy those who have had their concerns in that area

A great big ground with a fantastic surface with plenty of viewing areas. What's not to like?

Parking is a bit of an issue but that's sweating the small stuff

My gut feeling is that we've grabbed hold of Waverley because we've hit a hurdle with Caulfield (funding)

We would be relying on the State Govt. to cough up the tens of $Millions and that may or may not be forthcoming

The AFL might have even stepped in and told us to grab Waverley while it's still available

Again, just an opinion

I'm hoping it's the opposite. Caulfield is looking good so we're prepared to move to an interim location.

It's easy to criticise the decision-makers at Melbourne, but this is another decisive move.

Sure, it's a compromise, but it's the best option available.

I don't buy the argument that we had any political leverage if we dug our heels in and stayed at AAMI.

Caulfield is a hugely ambitious goal - What's wrong with AMBITION!

It's not dead, but anything worthwhile takes time, hard work and resilience to setback after setback.

I think we should actually take comfort in the fact that since Smith has become President, we have heard crickets from the Club. That's what good clubs do!

Sure, but if Caulfield is a definite goer, why bother making the move to Waverley in such a rushed manner?

Seems a bit rushed to move 'in-season' anyway

Either way, I reckon it's a win/win

Might be something to this....

then just add in...

Well if you go Collingwood might step up ...

We're getting played !!

We were always going to feel the squeeze at AAMI ... the juggernaut of the tennis and the pulling power of the Pies

So get out if the alternate suits. Waverley is a huge upgrade in more ways than one

The training ground upgrade is like chalk & cheese

Gosch's right next to Punt Rd with no viewing areas or protection

Waverley is an enclosed arena with loads of viewing areas and a great surface & size

Anyway, it's best to embrace if we may not have other viable choices

Just go to use the toilets and not flush. 'For history's sake'.

We might get the squeeze ...another possibly wont 🙄🤔

I maintain that if Caulfield falls over then heads should roll. Guerra again talked the talk today.....

Not necessarily if funding has become the major issue

You know, all the great plans of mice and men

Good intentions but we're talking close to $100Million in funding that is needed. And we don't possess that sort of coin without Govt. & Council funding

The club dug this hole themselves when they teased a big announcement coming at the end of last year. The members are right to be frustrated.

I feel like an announcement has been teased every damn year, and that is probably why the members are antsy and desperate for a solid, official announcement. Now Caulfield does feel a lot further down the line than the likes of the area near Goches Paddock, and ideas like Melbourne Uni, Fishermans Bend, and other mooted ideas, but still until the ground has been broken I'm not getting to revved up.

We're not a big club and we don't have the pulling power

As for the Storm & Victory, they may well be happy with their lot and may not want to rock the boat. And both those clubs play their actual games at AAMI

The Victorian Government is guaranteed by the Commonwealth and vast majority of state and territory debt is owned by the RBA.

All spending though is a political decision.

I think this will still get done.

Do you still believe in the tooth fairy ATG?

If we move to Waverley it removes the need for the government to do something at Caulfield any time soon. The Caulfield project then gets moved into the same draw as the rail link to tulla. The AFL will be happy to have waverley used and will not have to give money to the mfc at the same time as money to the Tassie team. We will be stuck there for at least the next decade. We might as well change our name to the Waverley Demons.

Hawthorn did OK there. Stop winging.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
