I’m not sure if many follow American football, but I’m a 49ers fan and the last 5 seasons before this one have been shockers, pretty much sitting last or close to it.

Last year, out of 32 teams they had the equal 2nd worst win-loss record, the second worst defence, and a bottom 25% offence.  Their turnaround this year has been staggering, especially the defence which are now feared. Here’s hoping for a good result tomorrow, and a good omen for the AFL team that finished second last in 2019.

Massive 49ers fan and proof that things can be accomplished in a short space of time with the right people in charge and the right mindset going forward.

We can dream carn't we!

I am actually barracking for Kansas City, it is 50 years since they were in the Super Bowl game.

They won that year and in 1969.

They sound more like the MFC to me!

Both teams are basically red and white, who is wearing the away white colours?

49ers fan here too since 1988 when I was in San Francisco and purchased a 49ers jacket. A few weeks later they won the superbowl which was only a few months after our record breaking Grand Final loss.

Jacket looked like this and I still have it somewhere. I should dig it out for the game but alas it's sized to fit a skinny 12 year old.

I'm a sore cheesehead. Hope Kansas City tear them a new one.

You could always say your mother washed it and it shrunk!

In 1983 I was working in USA, spent most of time in the north east and Chicago, I bought a Bears coat and on the way home a 49ers jumper for my 3 year old daughter. 37 years later she is still a 49ers fan. Pity the same did not work with the Dees!

As a Jets fan I can say supporting the Jets is far more akin to supporting the MFC than the Chiefs. Right down to the same miserable fan base.

And my wife is a Geelong and Patriots supporter ☹️

She must be a wonderful wife for you to put up with that lot Dr.

In 1983 ( Feb-March) I was working in the USA and went to a United States league game.

I think the league last 3 years and was played after the NFL finished in late Jan.

I think the game is best on TV, at the game it seems to go on forever with constant stops.

Patriots fan since getting #73 John Hannah Jersey in 78, so I have had a great run in my lifetime.

Would like to see the Chiefs win.

When you look at the 49ers last season whilst the win loss ratio looks bad, they lost a lot of close games and didn't have Jimmy G for a lot of the year.

So whilst they ended up with the second worst record they IMO were better than a lot of sides and suffered from playing in a strong division having to play the Seahawks and Rams twice.

Ive spoken before about getting lucky in the AFL and bottoming out in the right draft year like the Hawks when they got Roughie and Buddy, well the niners certainly got lucky with the Cardinals wanting a QB and leaving Bosa at pick 2.

I think the niners will defensively be two strong so think you'll be happy Monday lunchtime

Did not know that about you mate! Great to hear, unfortunately I just missed out on the best of the Montana years Steve Young was my guy.

Would love nothing more than the Dees emulating this rise.

Yes , first time in a  while I haven't got the day off.

Usually head to a bar after a big brekky and watch it over a  few frothies.

American football!!!

FMD !!!

Am I alone in saying this is boring bullshite  and I couldn’t possibly ever get sufficiently [censored] enough to waste my time watching it?

Huge Niners fan. Sat front row in the end zone for the Panthers game this year. The noise was amazing, particularly the Bosa interception. Winning team.

Met Montana by chance in a breakfast house in San Carlos in 86. He gave me a few minutes which was fantastic. That sealed it for me as a Niner.

Was at Candlestick Park for Steve Young's first game. He is my shirt of choice.

Pretty pumped about Monday.

Go Niners

From all accounts he was as regular a guy as they come and always great to chat with.

My new Kittle jersey won't make it from the states in time so I'll be rocking the Terrell Owens circa 2000 piece :)

It was Monday morning after his comeback game and he had connected 5 times. He didn't need to give me time but he was happy to give me a few minutes after my cousin introduced me as his cousin from Australia.

My son will have his Kittle shirt on on Monday.

Heading into deluxe at Fed square where I understand there will be Niners fans watching.

There will be plenty and quite a few of my Niners friends will be there. I'll be at Kicks in Elizabeth St but if we win I may end up at Beer Deluxe who knows!

Trump killed the USFL by moving it to compete with the NFL.

Hoping the Niners win, even though I have a few Chiefs supporting mates.

To hell with NFL, we won more games last year yet still finished runners-up to a team that tries to buy their trophies every year.

This year it's all ours, it has to be. Carn the Reds!!!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
