Today was a "quiet" return from the Christmas/New Year break, compared to the exhausting, relentless sessions that we saw before the break.  Having said that, the players had already run a 3 km trial before starting the main exercises which lasted until nearly midday after a 9.30 or thereabouts start.

....

And that is the main observation from today.  Of the 44 on the list 35 were on the track

...

thanks for the reports everyone. much appreciated. like the stat indicating numbers training on the list but would also be great to get a stat on the number of our starting 22 that are doing match practice / match simulation also as this shows how progressed our key players are in the more advanced phase of their training work. awesome next level reports everyone!

I'll take Pruess as the smoky goal kicking winner.

I'll support that ... I like his kicking style and the power he generates in the ball flight ... occasionally.

Hell!!! I think I would rather drag my nut sack across broken glass. That would have been hell doing a time trial between the sprints.

Not quite what came to my mind but know what you mean. Imagine being a first year hoping you are good enough to make it in the big league and getting hit with that.

Very good indeed!

Preuss was the only one to get the last goal from a tight angle about 35 metres out.  Jordan skimmed the inside of the post according to the players.  I didn't think it did but goal review wasn't installed!

Hitting the fat side flanker - has been Melksham and Fritsch - seems to be the aim of the kicking half ground match sim

Surely Petracca would be on of these flankers.   The  'fat side'  flankers.? ?

Thanks for the reports all!

Might be because running on grass is better than the tan? Both softer and also level? Did all 3 then complete all the craft session? Think Viney could have a big year, with his first decent pre-season in years.

Can any watchers elaborate,  How is the ground at Gosch's this year.?   Is the surface soft enough,  compared to the apparent concrete surface of last year.?

Does is look in better 'nick',  Re greenness,  and IF someone  could check with a key or similar,  to see if there's enough moisture content,  to protect the boys feet and joints.?

Bedford 2nd in the 3km time trial again.    Wonder how he would go in the midfield?

He is chasing the small fwd possie, Pickett was ordinary today in the match sim and came third last in the 3k, it will probably come down to Corey Wagner and Bedford first up with Chandler keeping them honest

Max gets the short kick in the corridor and goes long to Melk who nicely bodies Oscar out of the way on this one.

Next one up. Chandler crumbs back to Vanders in the wing spot, in to Dunkley, out to Weid who hits Jackson on a nice lead.

Melksham outbodies Oscar?? Surely not ?? Sheeit how Oscar is Still on the list is mystyfying!

Didn't want to post this as I thought it might get the Oscar bashers salivating...was standing near where it happened.

Melk had back position, Oscar in front and the ball was put up to Melk's advantage, nice bit of body work to edge Oscar under the ball.

Given that everyone was going through the motions I wouldn't write a lot into it.

Jordan lewis on SEN late afternoon was asked about Smith and stated that he had a cut on his foot that kept him off the track today.

Given it was a light session hopefully it was just a bit of maintenance for him.

But yeah, panic stations if he’s not out there on Monday.

MFC's official training photos are on the improve, but not sure why they would include photos of players drinking water. Last time l checked you get zero Champion Data points

It looks good to me. I noticed the Punt Rd side just outside the fence is very damp so there has been plenty of water spread about recently.

Thats good to hear.   Hopefully the playing/training surface is just as moist.    We need softer conditions that last years concrete.

Concrete might not burn, and may be easy to run on, but its just not great for the bodies limbs and back.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
