the problem is that if they do hit 100,000 members then they Collingwood, Richmond and a couple of the interstate clubs will have additional annual revenue of several million dollars by comparison to the MFC. The weight of that money will show notwithstanding the league's attempts at equalisation.

It will get ever harder to bridge the numbers gap both on revenues and memberships.

Essendon is the other club obviously at a significant crossroad as we push into the third decade of the 21st century.

Not disputing that at all mate, and the only way The MFC can change that scenario is to beat these clubs onfield regularly, in front of big crowds and TV audiences

Onfield success is everything

Both Ess and Carlton are pushing for more games at the G on the basis of membership size.  Guess who is the minnow of the MCG Home Clubs, and who will end up paying the price with fewer G games, if we don't get our act together.  Fast!!

It is entirely up to the MFC

We must be successful onfield

that is our core business

This is where we disagree. I don't believe sustained on field success is possible without getting the off-field right first. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but you believe that we need to get the on-field right first and then the off-field will (or may) follow.

Is there any other club you're prepared to say won't win a flag before we do?

can't see the Saints cracking it in the next ten years.

On the other hand there is no argument that we have underperformed for the last four or five years.

If we had made finals consistently we would now be firmly in the prime TV mix and around 55k membership wise. Not to mention the additional sponsorship money that would have come along.

The real issue as I see it is how do we manage as a club where our membership upside is say 60k in a time when other clubs are breaking the 100k barrier. The media money is now capped for at least the next 5 years so sponsorship and members are the only short term growth areas from a revenue viewpoint that I can see.

We have had this discussion before. Without onfield success the Football Club will die ( the last 57 years have proven this) WE WERE THE POWER TEAM OF THE LEAGUE..

Now we are well down the pecking order

Why? We lose far too often in predictable fashion

Winners grow.

Our Core business is football. Winning creates exposure and Sponsorship Interest.
Without winning all the other important issues are meaningless

Already a member (AFL) and received an email from MFC today containing the following blurb..

The race to round one has started.

43,787 members by 20 March 2021 – an all-time round one membership record.

Join the race and let’s make history.

Ditto DJ, MCC/MFC member and I renew before the finals (last year). They should know that I am a member I have a new scarf to prove it.

This is  a Club wise  email Obviously and we get those about 2 a week plus extra ones.

Pleae don't criticise Club for pushing membership and revenue raising avenues in this day and age!
They can't have a block on all emails to certain members etc

Just delete if you don't have any need for any email FGS.!

I didn't criticise the club. Yes they can block member emails to paid or unpaid paid members or any group they choose. If you don't like my post ignore it FGS!

Well your post indicated that they should know!!!  ( and no to send!!!)
Of course they do but when some one presses an email to all on their email  list  it sends out to all.

My point is that to exclude current members or an other group is complicating and unnecessary.

BT W don't like or appreciate your comment on another post that I might  be Trump for all you know!!! What a criticism and disgrace!!!

I wonder how many people are waiting to see the covid restrictions  in the early rounds before signing on. I’m expecting a significant lockdown over winter so I if can get to 3-4 games this year I’ll take that.
Some people would see the membership as a ticket to each game rather than a donation to the club which I think is fair enough. Hard to expect those aside from die hard fans or people with lots of money to give money for no tangible return

That's a short/medium term look DD the long term inJuly on if we are in the 8 and flying looks totally different.

Get on board and the rewards are there.

Take a chance  Better to get out in open air and atmosphere at the G!!

Trouble is thousands have taken a chance over the last half century and we know how that has ended. An early good start gets Dees fans to sign on. Has always been so and I expect it will continue until we play constantly in finals. As for attending at the G signs are we could still have most games interstate. I suspect that will keep some away from the membership queue.

That’ last line is me Dubdee. Even if we get 3-4 games at the G I won’t be there. To much risk for me.

Kayo looks better every day.

Boy you can dull a crowd OD!
Where do you get your info  from?

The AFL are determined to keep to the draw as announced to Round  6 Without disruption.

Talk is that at some stage each team may go interstate to play 2 games or similar but no hubs as per last year.

Criwds are looking to start at a minimum 50% and improve on that.

AFL are super keen to get the jewel in their crown Victoria up and running as trouble free as possible after last year.

Thousands who have stuck with us over the decades are either in the Half glass full or empty category.or just go each year and especially so after a year off last year!!

Just  because you have already excused yourself from attending till July once the Covid conditions are applied by the Health Dept it's up to the individual if any other health issues are relevant.

Of course you could always get your jab Which would be a positive start!!!

I am looking to get mine ASAP so I can make choices about coming from interstate to go to the G! I  BTW I am in my 55th consecutive years membership with Grand Final guarantee.

Sorry  that's a bit Too much positive for you to take in In one post!!

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
