“He was going to play six to eight games this year, just because of his body shape and he hadn’t played much footy, but he finished with 13 games and put on five to six kilos for the year which was great. He had huge growth in his body, he still needs to put on a bit more weight, but he’s improved dramatically. His fundamentals are very good, but he just hasn’t played a lot of footy so when he comes back he’ll do a lot of ruck work and marking practice. We know we have to take our time with him but he’s on track for another good year next year.” - Matt Egan MFC Head of Player Development

Could be anything or nothing but can’t fault his genetics.
I briefly met his father in the 90’s and to this day he is the largest human being I’ve ever seen.

Austin will be given time by the Club to develop and has the coordination, the height and all the resources necessary to succeed it will probably come down to desire and a bit of luck as to if he does.

I watched a couple of his games and saw some really promising signs:

- he can kick the footy

- he's quite clean with the footy below his knees for a giraffe

If you can overlook the rag-dolling he got in the ruck which is to be expected from a stick insect, we might have a player with a few more years of weight/strength gain and development. It's hard to judge his ruck capability at this stage. It did improve in his first (VFL) game when instructed to jump over his opponent rather than be easily brushed aside.

I'd rather Weids work on his strength yet be lean (not skinny), as opposed to bulky. Allow him to really launch at the ball.

He's never been the type of forward to sit under the ball and out-muscle his opponent. Oh how i miss you Neita.

I wish Weidemann had put on as much weight/muscle:

That was posted on September 10. I am sure he's put on size and strength since. Also taking into account he was on a liquid diet after his wisdom teeth surgery.

A phone camera will do that to to the edges, ie. make them bigger. I don't think Lever on the left has suddenly put on 15kg

That's because he has had no muscle to be able to do that !!!

An interesting factor for the dees atm is the number of young players we have who have potential but are still in the development phase.

In addition to bradtke we have neita, Sparrow, Chandler and Jordon. And id inlude smith in that mix (and possibly spargo).

Add the three players we just drafted and we have a solid group of young players with potential.

POTENTIAL! Bradtke has it. Sparrow has it. The team wears it.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
