4 years for smoking some weed. It’s legal is some countries. What is the world coming too?!

It's the tampering of the test which earns the 4 years. For years that clib trotted out the Ben Cousins never tested positive defence. Rioli with foot issues was struggling to get up week to week. We'll never know why he tampered with the test, they will maintain the line of it was only ever Cannabis.

If that's the case take the test, get a strike and maintain anonymity

You know the 4 years would be for sample tampering, not weed.

Stop trying to push a pro cannabis line by stating untruths.

Something tells me Moonshadow doesn’t approve of people who smoke weed

Mary Jane could def be performance enhancing if used to calm nerves a few hours before game time (can't imagine actually being stoned in a game would help)

You'd think giving up weed in exchange for a six figure salary to play footy is a complete no-brainer.

...but apparently not.

There is no way you’ll ever convince me that weed is a performance enhancing drug in any contact-sport.

Can't think of any sport it would be performance enhancing.
Not unless delayed reactions times were important.

What about the 'Munchies Cup', held at 4am world wide that may involve kebabs, pizza or Cheezels?

The only “sport” I could see it helping in would be Fortnite.

4 years for tampering with a test.

A fine and counselling for first positive test.

4 weeks off for second test and publicly named.

12 months suspension for third positive test.

It doesn’t matter that it’s legal in parts of the world, marrying your sister and marrying a 10 year old is also legal in other parts of the world. Doesn’t make it right.

Nope .... You need fast reaction times for Fortnite.
You'll get cleaned up by kids all day long.

Actually,  I've thought of one .... Fishing.

How many warnings do they need? Tampering with a test is severe IMO. They know the rules, they attend WADA/ASADA training and awareness sessions, do the crime....

Forgive me for not doing my own research here, but was Rioli looking at missing out on finals matches had he just ‘fessed up to a bit of weed?

Sure, at the elite level.

I’m talking about the local intra-share house comps.

Not sure, since he was named publicly it was at least his second positive result.

Hmmm,

Obviously his attempts to deceive the testers were foolish and naive, but the prospect of missing (and the pressure of not missing) finals might have persuaded him to take that clumsy risk.

While gaming on dope is fun, Fortnite is a game of reflexes.
You gotta build like a madman and hit those shots and if you delay for a split second .... You're back in the lobby.
About to have a couple games now with the kids.... ?

Above I suggested fishing.
But second thought at the top level you still need focus.

Makes sense.

I can understand why some a questioning how canibis, weed, etc can be a PED on game day, and I'll attempt to explain why. ASADA, WADA, etc are not after the guys that smoke weed, they're after those that are using a liquid extract from it that can calm nerves, but also reduce pain and increase pain threshold. This small liquid dose doesn't give you the mind numbing effects, but because it is from the same plant, when they test for it, it comes back positive even if you've smoked it, and thus you are penalised regardless. I hope this helps explain it.

Sounds like the same effect of camomile tea. Is that banned also?

I merely tried to explain why it was tested for. If the only way of having it was through a puff or two, I would imagine it would be a detriment as you can't control the dosage. But in some countries, this extract is used medically for pain, anxiety, ect. Which is why it is tested.

And tea, of any variant, only has Caffeine in it, which isn't considered PE unless in extremely high doses, but go right ahead and assume that people only use weed to get high.

Chamomile tea has no caffeine. Players should get on to it before it gets banned. No need for the weed extract and associated complications.

  1. Reducing menstrual pain. ...
  2. Treating diabetes and lowering blood sugar. ...
  3. Slowing or preventing osteoporosis. ...
  4. Reducing inflammation. ...
  5. Cancer treatment and prevention. ...
  6. Helping with sleep and relaxation. ...
  7. Treating cold symptoms.

Having a look at the tea, the molecules that cause the above effects are in low doses. If one of the molecules were to be extracted from the plant in a high dosage and then taken, then yes, it would be considered PE. It's the same with other tea regarding caffeine, which I've stated above. When a natural element is taken out of its source and artificially taken, is the main problem. Most PEDs come from natural sources such as Chamomile Tea.

Chamomile tea isn’t banned, THC is. Simples.

I drink a chamomile tea every evening, might try smoking it tonight.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
