Max Gawn.

Our champion. Another magnificent season by Max. He is at the peak of his powers and talk of Grundy being better is like saying Polly was better than Big John or vice versa. Loved by the fans, coaches and playing group and the whole footy community. Hopefully the Club soon realises here is the bloke to lead us to glory. Nothing so far has been too much of a burden for Max, he has the intellect to cop the blows,  work on his body shape without prompting, readjust his goalkicking and forward positioning. A reason to watch the Dees in a dismay year.

Very good and complex question Red ………………….. I've been wondering what the future holds for him. He was a real weapon when fit and going but ………………….. he's been so cooked by injuries, I suspect he might be delisted.

What do you know re his injury/ contract status?

4-6 and 2 year contract left. Wonderful.

Another wasted spot. We talked him out of leaving!!!!

I guess we should have used the old hindsight and traded him.

We already knew his injury record well, good player, but little use in a track suit.

Stephen May.

Rarely beaten one-on-one, can play on talls and smalls, able to dominate an area, good disposal, can swing forward, leadership material, with a full off-season behind him May may be our ace in the hole in 2020.

played 6 games for the year at 27 years of age.

Big question mark with him for 2020

Jake Lever

well what can you say... I suppose he came back from his ACL but his AFL form was ordinary. Probably should have had one or two more runs at VFL level on his comeback.

Expecting  a lot more in 2020 if he is to justify his salary and trade price.

Jury well and truly out.

Agree.

Suppose we should have guessed he would be injured all year.

Not at all.

If May stays fit next year, no question mark at all.

It didn’t suprise me..

Might not have, but would you have predicted it?

If he stays fit we build our defence around him.

Petty. Just maybe we might have found a forward. It is a big guess though.

We already know a lot about foot problems. It wasn’t the first time he had gone down.

Too late now. But we cannot tie up a list position with players who don’t play a game

KK is another one. Too much hope and not enough calculated research

Here's another one I'd like to know the latest on!

Anyone have up to date info?

Bayley Fritsch:

Looked comfortable and at home as a defender. But was then inexplicably thrown forward late in the year and looked like a fish out of water.

I wonder if his ability to play tall and small means he has longevity built into those legs and we can expect 5-7 more years.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
