WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON

Great get for the club.  Looking forward to seeing him improve our best 22 and be part of our push back up the ladder in 2020.

Richmond got end of 2nd comp pick (#39) for Ellis and he is reportedly on $600k pa for 5 years.  So Tomlinson would have to be in the same range to get the same comp pick #40

I'm not sure we can trust the Ellis comparison. Ellis's compo was just short of a 1st rounder according to the AFL. But I'd be amazed if it didn't hit that and the AFL were reacting to the media noise about the reigning Premier getting a first rounder for a player they haven't fought to keep.

Tomlinson has been told he's being brought in to play wing...

Whether that ends up being the case who knows but that's the position we've targeted him for.

Howe was brought in to C/Wood to play forward and...things change.

Melksham came to play half back and was terrible at it.

I think the club will quickly realise he is not the answer on the wing. Hoepfully he will be able to find a posot.

Welcome Adam! Hopefully he can push back and forward from the wing so Max doesn't have to kill himself doing it all. And he'll be a better relief ruck than TMac or the Weid.

Jeez, reverse the deal immediately..could derail the club entirely

Can't help but feel like we've recruited another Jordan Lewis rather than finding a proper solution but if the cost is minimal then it's probably worth a shot. Certainly costs something though - game time for a limited player and a decent whack of salary I'm sure.

but we do have to pay overs to get deals done at this stage

hopefully he delivers but 4 years helps me understand why other clubs weren't interested. It's a long contract if he is NQR.

Good luck to him.

The salary at around 600k puts him objectively in the top 30% of the list which is around our top 14 players so it's not high if he delivers.

Four years ?

Can't find it now. Looks like it's been deleted?

Lewis was in his 30s when he came to us, and on his last legs. Tomlinson is in his prime. I don't understand the comparison at all.

This guy has played for a very good team for a very long time, he has speed and agility, and he cost us nothing.

I don't care about contract lengths and figures, I leave that up to our list managers. I care that we got a quality player who will be in our starting 22 nearly every week, and we did not need to give up a single thing for him.

has played more finals than our entire leadership team put together!

i do think it's ominous that we say: Tomlinson is a durable player who has missed just two matches in the past three years, and has experience performing at the pointy end of the season.

now it's a case of “We bought him; now we will break him”

Welcome aboard, Adam and kudos to our recruiting team.

It's disappointing but hardly surprising that the usual suspects on this board will look for the cloud and not the silver lining.

He runs hard and to the right spots but he doesn't have speed and agility. The comparison is getting a player with good leadership and who gets to the right spots but might not have the speed and upside to keep delivering as the contract goes on. Most players don't make it to 30+ to decline, the game moves passed a lot of guys before that. Hopefully Tomlinson can be more than just a guy who gets a game each week without doing much. There's always guys available for cheap picks and on far lesser deals who can do that.

Welcome, Adam!

Will be interesting to see how he goes on the wing, but he's quick, can take marks (which I can't say about many of the current lot), and give Maxxy some relief in the ruck - plus he already has a lot of finals experience!

With guidance and development, I reckon Adam will be a great grab!

He is definitely not quick!

Not necessarily.

The AFL said Richmond fell only a couple of point short of higher compensation, and included in the formula would be the success of the team and given Richmond have won 2 of the last 3 flags, that would be significant. The Giants compo points could be miles apart but within the same 'band' so might not be that close.

16.

And I don't believe this is in anyway an issue for all those asking.

Tomlinson good mates with Dom Tyson and would be well known to a lot of the other demons. Just banter from Tracc.

Put Tomlinson in number 6 and have him buy coffees for Tracc, he'd be a good leader and team mate for him I think.

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.
