What about one set of goal posts that must be the silliest idea since sacking Norm Smith

yeah, didn't pickup on that in the article

Then again

might be easier to do this then go for a bit of sneaky scope creep and add some more goal posts later

In the HUN today the MFC have said the training ground will have no fence and only goal posts at one end .

Does this sound poor or is it just me?

Ever other club seems hell bent on having training grounds to match the size of the G but not us the facility will only have posts at one end! Oh please.

Stay where we are at least we can replicate a real game.

It'll be like an Auskick set up, where we have a big park and they move the goal posts to wherever to fit in

The likes of Hawthorn and Essendon must be laughing at this proposal.

unless they have some other (new technology?) ideas we don't know about?

Essendon have two G size training grounds already and Hawthorn is well into providing  similar.

i know od, but essenscum are the exception. also i wouldn't say hawthorn are "well into" yet.....long way to go

we also have casey, but i agree this is not really much help

by new tech i meant they could have hidden goal/point posts and netting underground and could pop them up at the flick of a switch. an extension of what they already do at the mcg for netting. instead of a fence the could have popup led lighting to simulate a fence when they need one. not saying they are planning these things but just give them as illustrations of how technology could be used to overcome perceived deficiencies

thing is we know so little of what they are planning, and i'd like to think they aren't totally stupid

You would hope so dc however after 57 years of disasters the odds are against it.

Portable goal posts at one end for a while would solve it. I have two sets in my garage.

My thoughts as well. Build it, come up with some safety concern that require a barrier... suddenly a fence, well... might as well put up some flag poles at this end too... without flags

Simon told them that we're planning to do away with defence altogether in a couple of years so only one set of posts would be necessary.

What Bartlett said in the paper this morning was encouraging. The idea that there is no fencing proposed will resonate with the local resident dog walkers and, when it is all said and done, if we need to do full match simulation then Gosch’s Paddock is still only a short jog away. Other aspects of training can take place in Yarra Park and you only need one set of goal posts to practice goal kicking.  The most influential residential neighbour (Rupert Myer) isn’t effected and it doesn’t hinder his view through to the city! It may well work and they seem to have looked at all aspects before letting it hit the press.

What's so unusual about that?  That's why we have been losing all our games recently -- d'fence is nowhere to be seen!!

I’ve not joined in the discussion before, but you do raise an interesting point there. The first games of football - that which we now call Australian Rules - were played by the Melbourne Football Club in the parkland adjacent to the cricket ground. It is also the parkland where those free for all schoolboy games between Melbourne Grammar, StKilda Grammar and Scotch College were played. So it is very historically important to the club (and to us the followers of the club).

I still have my doubts about obtaining a permit to build the facility at Yarra Park, but if it came to pass it would be just as significant as a move back to training on the MCG (and that won’t happen).

That is all good and I agrree with sentiment BUT, this is not the best place to Grow this club.

This whole exercise is nothing to do with History,,, and is meant to be all about growing the club again.

Yarra Park Nth, is too far off the track, for daily punters.   Revenue going to waste, leaving from Richmond Station.

I’m not sure why we’d bother with all the effort if we can’t do full match simulation?

An extremely good question SF. Only wish I had the answer.

I think you need to write a lengthy piece outlining your Anti Jolimont Thesis to the club. Actually, are they taking member submissions?

It's not DL who needs convincing. Unless Bartlett is masquerading as someone.

Don't need to, they all read the forums.  And since I'm not an office worker, and have a distaste of formalities, and writing and text. Its not my way.

Trust me the word gets back.

Haven't you noticed,,,, the welcome game, and many other things, are all born from ideas on forums.

Wish we could have a training ground like Methodon has? Having an indoor training base would be good for those 40 plus degree summer days.

I think the site where they are planning to build is alright for a casual kick of the footy, but if we want a flag/s then we need to move into the 21st century.

If you have a problem with writing then I have not noticed. It appears to be one of your key funky focii as evidenced by some epic writing on this topic (absolutely no offence intended)

I'm absolutely shocked to learn only office workers can write letters. Shocked.

Given our supposed preference for Buller and Falls  these months  then surely what we need to create at Yarra Park... is the MFC  'SNOW-dome' ;)

I read it as there won't be a fence etc at that end.

No, but I do not FEEL the connection with paper letter writing, It bores me, it leaves me cold, and so have no interest in it.

Also I have no faith in those who are at the top table;  making the dee-cisions.

Present board accepted; to this point.

I much prefer talking to the masses,  and the ordinary folk....  and not the 'politically correct',,,  'stinkers and movers'_  Ha !
