As always,  it is never just one thing.  We need the players to have the confidence to have a shot at goal (in a general sense)

The players also need to improve their techniques both with their approach & execution.

And most of all practice,  and lots of it.

If you are going to sit/lean back on your last step as you kick for goal, resulting in little forward momentum with most kicks,

Leaning back during the kicking stride,  causes the leg to swing across the body to target line.

If this is a habit,  the player often adjusts the line of run-up, to that like a rugby league kicker, kicking for goal...  approaching the ball from an offset angle.

This can also help get some extra distance.

Leaning back is the worst thing to do,  upsetting ball drop...  and the action of the leg through the target line.

Petracca's action is a mess.    And will never get better,  as long as he leans back on the kick.

He has to go to school on his licking...  and at the same time,  learn to kick with his non preferred foot, on the run.

Maybe do this first,  as this might Aid his goal kicking ability on his natural side.

Faaaantastic,  unconscious,  eye-hand co-ordination... pure subconscious reflex,  at her focus spot.

... see how she stutters in her throw, the last twitch change of direction,  at the camera itself.

... focus on your target behind the goals...  and ForGet about those bloody big sticks....   focus,  kick,  and follow thru inline with your target.

... thats all.

That would help 85% of it.

.

As I have iterated time and time again!

Would anyone be surprised to hear that I was a prolific goal kicker in my day and deadly accurate to boot. Could launch a decent barrel from outside 50, too. Cheers.

And you still couldn't get a game with Manangatang 2nds

About the only thing left to do this season that involves leaning back DV is downing one's favorite draught or drop.

Watching the demons while doing so surely no longer mandatory and more likely to spoil any enjoyment from the former.

I read the Suns are targeting Roughead for a possible off-field role next year. I hope Lewis is in his ear about coming to us. Goal kicking coach would be a good start.

A kicking coach more importantly ... cause & effect at play again DZ.

Both with technique as in execution and also with the approach to the kick.  At AFL level a player should be able to hit a target off 1 step who is 40 metres away. With velocity on the kick.

So how many playees do we have on the list who can do that?

You go to training, but you have no idea what you're looking at.

You told us all summer that players didn't really have interrupted preseasons and would all be cherry ripe for Round 1 and all the surgeries and late starts wouldnt affect their season and blah blah blah

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

I thought I would answer this one as again you have misquoted

I said their fitness would not be impacted, which it wasn't, returning from rehab they were plylhysically ready to go

Form and consistency are something different altogether

If you must consistently try and point score, try getiing your facts correct, can happily put tour childish mutterings back on ignore noe

Beep-Beep-Beep. That is a preposterous wriggle out of what you said.

Form is directly related to fitness or lack thereof.

Childish mutterings indeed.

Brad Green 18 springs to mind and would be a great way for MFC to get around him and his boys again. He was a great kick for goal and kicked well under pressure. Come on Demonland get it done............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We should get the best available in whatever position becomes available. If that's Brad Green great but being an ex-Melbourne player should be well down list of criteria.

I’d say one of the players that can do it is sitting in the stands Macca, Melksham. Salem is excellent too, albeit at shorter distances.

Preferrably not from in-house.   We should be resisting falling back into the in-house trap all the time,  because its a kind thing to do... this is one of our failings, that being kind equals winning.  In footy,  it does not.

So look outside the club for skills coaches.

Imo we need a clean out of assistant coaches and get some experience in there to support Goody apart from McCarthy.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
