Can't agree with your assessment of Shiel and Treloar DV8. Shiel is bordering on being a top 10 player in the competition. Plenty would have him in there including me. Absolutely torched us three weeks ago. Treloar is not far behind him. Both sensational players.

I'm  Shiel fan and I have been pushing for us to recruit him, since his 2nd year.  A freinds son played alongside Dylan at in the U-18's

But I don't like paying two top 10 picks for anyone.

I think it's risky business indeed,  especially now the competition is so Even.  Now we have first hand experience with Lever,  Re his injury.

One career ending injury,  and you can fall right off the back of the wave.

Prepare for this post to bumped later in year. Apologies accepted in advance.

Kidding yourself if you don't think our FD will strongly consider him. If his knee's right - and reports suggest Hawthorn for one club think it will be - then he's the best value for money KPF out there in the marketplace.

Try taking no risks in this 18-team comp and win a flag. 'Aint gonna happen.

Both those guys would be great but who do you propose we kick the prune to inside F50 next year? What’s your solution?

His knee doesn’t appear to be putting off Hawthorn.

Why would it?. look at Scully and his Ankle which was meant to be career ending??

They make an art form picking up excellent players at the right price!

Why do we continue to pick DUDS

Been happening since the dawn of time

Yep, and they have a coach who doesn't speak about Fugazzi!

Yeah those risks they took on Dayle Garlett second time around, Beau Muston after his car crash really worked out.

Ffs they've picked up plenty of duds along the way as have other clubs.

We're not exclusive here

Fair enough but personally not convinced Scully adds much punch to the Hawks. Neat for sure but doesnt cut you up.

Beau Dowler (pick 6), Mitch Thorp (6)

Every club picks duds

Big NO for Patton. Not interested at all. We should have learnt our lesson with Lever - don't trade for players with an ACL history. Not rocket science. Even Petracca is a shadow of the player he would've been. ACL's are no joke. They really affect an individual. Hopefully the football department take a few deep breaths next time, count to 10, then halve what they want to give for a player. This football department has set this club back a long way.

Are you saying that we shouldn’t have picked up Gawn? He already had a history before entering the draft.

Sshhh Hardtack that sort of comment doesn’t fit the no-risk mindset of most Demonlanders.

I had mate say precisely the same thing the other day. His point was all clubs have trades that are busts and draft players that don't make it, including high picks. it's the nature of the beast. 50 50 is bloody good result. People just focus on the ones that worked out. But when assessing our our own recruiting many people do the opposite and just focus on the busts.

My issue with out recruiting is not who we have picked up as such, more the type of players Roos (yes he should shoulder some blame) and Goody have asked the recruiting team to prioritse. We should have been into Jack Martin 5 years ago for instance.

The problem we have is we have focused on competitive, contested ball winners at the expence of pace and skill, for 6 or so years. Which is all well and good, but the problem with that  is once a player get to the AFL their kicking skill is by and large fixed (though of course can improve) as is their pace (ditto). Easier to teach a really good kick that isn't naturally a contested ball winner to play solid defense and harden up.

When it comes to trading and recruiting some clubs go at 75/25. Others 50/50, the unsuccessful clubs (ie. us) more like 25/75.

No-one’s perfect sure but to suggest all clubs get 50% right and 50% wrong is clearly nonsense.

Hawthorn haven’t won 4 flags in ten years for no reason. Beau Dowler and Ty Vickery are among exceptions to a veritable cavalcade of successes.

Its embarrassing reading our supporters, Moonshadow and others, pot Hawthorn in this thread. Flat out embarrassing.

By all means do due diligence on Patton, but how many times did Gawn do his knee when drafted (answer: 1) and how many knee recos has Patton had (answer: 3)?

You suggesting other posters of being embarrassing? Irony, much.

You can't work out if you want to simply be a troll, or want people to take your views seriously or a bit of both. Now that's embarrassing.

Taken down by logic so you play the man. Typical rubbish from you Binman. Put yourself outside for a spell on the nature strip.

He’d done an ACL in 2009, and I was responding to KDAs post (somewhat sarcastically) regarding ACL history.

He didn’t need to... particularly as my post was never directed at Moonshadow.

Sorry Tacky, wasn't meaning to have a go at you, just making a general observation once I read your post.

We need a sarcasm font on Land too ?

It doesn’t bother me what you think of my posts. However cheers for helping keep the Jonno Patton thread front and centre. We seriously need this guy.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
