if Riewoldt plays then possibly Oscar has to come back in to play down there as we can't afford to just go with Frost.

We can't afford to have Oscar in the team, he has not made a contest all year. He is too slow anyway, against one of the quickest teams going around. Frost has done a better job than Oscar has in Oscar's position. Frost is not playing his position which probably has been as Lever's replacement. The team needs more run and also can't afford to carry all three of Jones, Lewis, and Hibberd and expect to be competitive. Spargo needs to develop at Casey. Stretch, Lockhart, Garlet, and Sparrow have all shown more pace and grunt.  Tmac to go back and Tim Smith as a forward target. Big changes need if we were not competitive against the Saint's.

I'm extremely interested in two things:

  1. Selection. Do we persist with all of Jones, Lewis, TMac and Hibberd (being the four leaders/senior players who are struggling) or do we rest/drop one or more of them to change things up? And will we finally see Garlett?
  2. Our set up on the night. Will we see Jones/Lewis, if they play, on the wings? And will we see the aggressive forward half press, or a refined version of that?

I think they should be playing Fritsch forward.  We need someone with some speed off the mark they can hit up.

T Mac and Weed always seem to be in a wrestle or flying over a pack.

Throw the magnets around this week.  Get Jones back in the guts, push Gus to the wing, put Harmes forward. Surely they have to try something different.

Get the season back on track for f..k sakes

Actually Peter Garrett doing this above would be more effective than anything else in our forward 50...

I expect Garlett, Stretch and Lockhart to come in for the Wagner's and Jetta and I expect a slaughter Richmond's way we are just not up to it this year.

Surely the Wagners won’t be dropped.  They have been serviceable, Corey laid 6 tackles and at least has some speed around the ball.

This match will be the final nail in the coffin for our 2019 season. I expect Richmond to win not because they are any good, but because we are rubbish.

The coaching staff have [censored] up this year. They’ve failed to adapt to the rule changes and gamestyle changes of the modern game. They have a talented list that they cannot get to perform. There’s not way we’re a bottom 2-3 team. We’re not playing finals this year, but I expect the coaches to be able to turn our form around for a good chunk of the season at least.

I want to see Garlett in. He’s the highest scoring goal kicker on our list and would provide a spark, even if he’s inconsistent. We lack speed and legitimate goal scoring options, and he’s both. Get him in.

Yep this season is over already.

We can shuffle things around, but our game plan and form, combined with our injuries to key backline players means we can’t make finals, let alone win finals. As by the time we resolve these problems the seasons will be too far gone.

Sorry Garlett

we need speed and crumbers in our fwd line. at present we have none and its a glaring deficiency. just look at the Hawks, dangerous small players like Wingard, Puopolo and Breust, and the Cats have got Miers, Rohan, Dalhaus and Parfit around roving around the feet of their tall forward.

What have we got? our fwd line is Spargo and CWagner who push right up to the contest in a link up roles, 2 key position forwards in Weid and TMac, 1 massive immobile ruckman in Preuss, Melksham and Trac who are ok players but hardly fast enough to catch anyone with at least 1 good leg, and Hunt, who has speed, but is lacking in smarts and skills. its no wonder we cant lock it inside our F50. once opposition easily win the ground ball in our fwd line we are just about powerless to stop them going all the way to goal.

we're too tall and slow, we have to change up the look and bring back some speed, pressure and goal crumbing to our fwd line. what we are doing clearly isn't working. everyone knows we bomb it to the talls and have no crumbers at their feet. its about as a moronic forward set up as you're ever likely to see.

I think it may be game over already. Hope i'm wrong but it is not looking too good.

I witnessed the deplorable efforts by our team v Port/Essendon/St Kilda. I can't bring myself to attend the Richmond match.

I went to the Hawthorn/Geelong match today. Hawthorn looked OK. They'll beat us by about 40 points the following week.

To think I paid for a friggin seat upgrade (because I don’t pay enough for my premium membership!) for this rubbish I am about to witness.

First game of the season I am dragging my fiancé to. We always win when he comes to games, but not even his lucky voodoo can help this train wreck of a club at the moment.

Add the pain of no trains and it’s going to be one long night

Alcohol will be your friend Wednesday night..

And lots of it too ????

Always go to this game (and home games), but this year thinking about it. Just can't face those feral Richmond supporters again, because every year they surround you and give you grief. They don't let you barrack for your team in peace. They always have to throw smart comments your way and pick you out of the crowd if you so much as applaud your players. They are arrogant bullies and getting even worse every year, especially now they have tasted success. Might give it a miss, now that I have heard about the lack of effort put in by the players during the off season. Pardon my lack of effort in showing up if they can't be bothered.

Yours Sincerely, Disillusioned.

Objectively, Richmond should smoke us by 60-70 points.

MFCSS tells me we may well lose by 100 points.

Only Melbourne could throw objectivity out the window and outperform itself in the crapness stakes.

Seriously, how are we even going to get close? Moving witches hats with any ins or outs.

Regardless of who comes in and who goes out we just look very ordinary and unbalanced on paper at the moment.

Jesus. We are only $2.55 for the win. Do punters know something we don't? We have been outrageously short odds almost every game this season. We should be comfortably $3.50. Suspect it may push out to that eventually.

Probably Spargo out  instead of Corey it will be interesting to see what they do with Lewis.

It’s just whether they have the balls to make a big decision.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
