On the coach has reported McCartney is infighting with Goodwin and the players. I said this would happen, the same thing he done at the Bulldogs and I got peppered by clowns like Dazzle. He's also the defensive coach with none other than Chaplin and we all know how that is going.

SACK HIM NOW!

Thoughts?

Saw this too. I didn’t even know McCartney was responsible for our defensive 6.

There’s a bad smell coming out of the club at the minute. Perhaps McCartney leaving may be our circuit breaker like it was for Essendon in 2018 with Neeld.

Mahoney, being the good operator he is, needs to sort this out ASAP.

Tom Morris also said the players came back after xmas in poor condition.

If true that would explain our lack of run and fadeouts after half time.

How unprofessional if true?

In the back half you can get away with punching the ball in the fwd line you're expected to mark it

And if you turn it over by foot in your back half, it results in an almost certain goal against. McDonald's kicking is a liability in defence.

Agreed.  From his press conf he thinks its the players:  aren't working hard enough, can't get the ball i50 accurately enough (ie can't connect) and our forwards can't mark (ie can't connect).  His points have validity but are only part of the story.

I didn't get the impression he thought it was game plan related issues.  I would be more confident of improvement if he said something like:  we will look at all aspects of our game, player skills, workrate, structures, forward leading and positioning, ball movement etc.

It wouldn't hurt to take and share the responsibility.

We'll know come Wednesday 10.30pm.

I'm betting we play a ridiculously aggressive and high press that Richmond break down by midway through the second quarter and end up 7 to 8 goal winners in a canter.

If this is the case, Goodwin will need a jolly good flogging. Cue the big fella.

The interesting point in this article is that McCartney is one of the men responsible for our defence.

I thought he was brought in to become a mentor for the coaches..? Why all of a sudden is he our defence coach? If he is putting pressure on Chaplin then [censored] needs to be sorted asap.

I genuinely thought we were past all the high school [censored]..

I am actually intrigued to get @Satyriconhome insight into all this. I know when this same topic came up early last year you were quick to shut this down straight away. The jungle drums are beating now and obvious there are ctacks amongst the internal 4 walls of the footy club. And no this is actually to deliberately bait him or anything. Just what to get his honest opinion from someone who soends a great deal down at the footy club.

I have no idea why McCartney was ever moved out of simply being a development coach. He is the best in the business and we have seen incredible development in the likes of our midfielders Brayshaw, Harmes, Oliver and even Gawn under his tutelage.

I don't want to lose McCartney, because we finally have a guy that knows how to develop talent properly. But why in hell is he a defensive line coach? It makes no sense, unless we have no faith in Chaplin and we've placed him there out of desperation...?

Can anyone else confirm McCartney is actually the defensive line coach?

This.

Several players like Harmes Salem and Oliver credited McCartney last year for the growth in development. Why did we then change that??

On the MFC site A F under the coaches section it has McCartney listed as Defensive Coach and Chaplin as Backline Coach.

Does defensive mean on all areas of the ground?

Don’t forget Jennings!!! He is the guy who is looking at Trends in the game.. hi Craig, heard of a 6-6-6?

Hmm, I find Jennings' position in all of this fascinating.

Many of our innovative moves over the past 2+ years were attributed to him. Certainly the Demon Diamond and the mids off the back of the centre square, which the rest of the competition then employed. I'm not sure who was responsible for the no wingers versus Hawthorn last year, but we were innovators and pretty much since that Hawthorn loss, we've continued an aggressive press, but with very little innovation.

Is he saving up the rest of his goodies for a senior coaching gig? I hope we see more innovation from our mob soon.

Thanks mate. Jeepers. I presume 'Defensive' would mean 'team defence', particularly if Chaplin is 'Backline'. It's precisely our team defence that has been so woefully off this year. No wonder he's not happy.

We are losing, finals may be disappearing, some players are horribly out of form

Rumour, fake news, in depth analysis from every man and his dog, absolute twaddle on here

I wait for the club to confirm or deny anything, not interested

Given you're one of the few who regularly gets to training though, Saty, have you witnessed any shifts?

And the club aren't going to confirm there are internal problems.

The article mentioned that game day relations were more the issue rather than at training. I wonder if that is due to different opinions in giving instructions, which no doubt would lead to confusion etc.

Also I remember Lingy (maybe Round 1 or 2) replying to one of the commentators that asked who the defensive coach was... "Chaplin and McCartney"

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
