Only action talks a language worth noting.

In football, that is correct.

It may be a requirement but that does not mean its a good thing unless you are addicted to social media and want to watch or listen to anything associated with the club. And I can't imagine too many players enjoy the media circuit.

I assume players are allowed by the club to talk about themselves, injuries or general themes but there are no go zones such as criticism of club, coach, teammates, disclosure of specific game plans etc.

They probably can't win, because if they are told what to say in broad terms, the message comes across as a scripted message and players get criticised for not being honest. On the other hand, if they said what they really thought all hell would break loose, the media would have a field day and clubs would have to go into damage control.

So what we are left with is a pretty bland melange that pleases no-one.

Ho-hum.

thank you for using Melange.

underrated word imo.

I really wish Melbourne players would just shut up.

Until they win a flag - preferably more than one - then I'm all ears

At least he tells it honestly. He is not playing well and nor is the rest of the team.

TMc is better running out from around 40Mtrs to gather possessions,  and also when running back into F50.   Allowing him to be mobile and unpredictable.

He's not really not so good playing the full forward role.  Much better at CHF or even Wing.

This is why he's off form.

He, Hibberd, Jones and Jetta have been the 4 big disappointments of the season so far.

Senior A graders (on their day) that are all horribly out of form at the same time.

oliver and gawn are our A graders. And nev on his day which is most of the time.

Hibberd was an A grader in 2017. As far as I'm concerned if you're an All Australian you automatically assume the title of an A grader for that particular season.

He became a B grader last year, and is looking D+ ish this year.

Yup, and with Lewis, Garlett and May out that leaves only Melksham as a 100-plus gamer in any sort of form (excluding Gawn and Viney). We have a massive experience vacuum as it is - especially when Garlett and May are being added to that list as outs - and those with experience are wildly underperforming.

When Melbourne are called upon for the media work their healthy salaries require them to perform, I’d prefer they just responded with stone silence. Better yet, take a footy in with them, so they can let their footy do the talking.

Sure, but it's a lose-lose situation. If they speak frankly they're saying too much, if they say nothing and speak in platitudes they're saying too little.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
