Good on you Bert.

The boy can play. Love his balance and awareness of what is around him. We have a good one here.

Reminds me a bit if when Jayden Hunt burst onto the scene. Hunt took 2 years to get going due to injury and form, and Baker had a similar start with his first year.

Like most inexperienced players they have their ups and downs, and Baker will be no different.

Like Hunt, I see him being able to carve a spot out in our best 22. You can't teach speed, and the modern game needs speedy players.

It would be 'iffy' if he still had hamstring problems ... but it looks like a good recuperation for young Ginger.

Misso must've done something right then!

Hallelujah, Brother! If he is recuperated (Baker), then maybe Misso had nothing to do with it, this time. He usually enables an encore or two at the best of times with normal footy injuries re-surfacing as longer-term ailments.

Gary the Hardeman - who could forget. He was our best CHB ever, I'd reckon.

You left out a better one, Don Williams. I thought Paul Prymke could have been a great if his back had of held up.

My memory is failing.  But, wasn't Don more a HB Flanker?

Yes you are correct, obviously my memory is failing.

He did play a lot at CHB, fairly confident he was there in September 1964.

Our ruckman was 6'2"  yes they sure have changed Mr Leg. I don't remember Williams playing in the centre however 55 years is a very long time ago.

The great John Nicholls was also 188cms and would be dwarfed by Cripps.

Williams was the centreman in the 64 Grand Final side...

Discussing height is the one thing in metric that I have never come to gripes with, 188 means nothing to me, I have to really work hard to establish if that is over 6 feet or not. However if you say 6'2" I know immediately how big the person is.

What a great side that was!  (Especially the HF line!  LOL).  But, surely Tassie Johnson was the real FB!!  And, I only remember Don Williams on the HB Flank.

Modesty forbids me from saying that I was the hero that day.

'OD'...  4 inches = 10cms...  12 inches =  30cms,  or 300mm...

4 inches = 100mm...

40 inches  =  1 Metre.

80 inches  =  2 Metres approx'.

Yes, but strong, aggressive & guile,  and the weight of a Clydesdale.

Would be amazing to see him torch the Pies in a big win today, burning them off with his speed and kicking some goals.

No pressure kid!

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
