my point stands. just because you don't understand the appeal of something, doesn't make it a "silly past-time". its actually quite hilarious watching you older blokes band together like this and aggressively defend your opinions on things you clearly don't understand, or even care to understand on any level.

Do you not see the irony? And I think you mean pass time.

And that is precisely the point that I am trying to make with AFLX ... have you read the thread?

It isn't arrogance on my part at all ... there are any number of things that can be extremely popular despite me not liking or caring for those things.

So UFC,  WWE,  ODI's ESports,  t20's are all popular ... I freely acknowledge that.  But I'm allowed to comment on those pastimes - good or bad.

And AFLX could end up being popular despite the protestations on this thread.

Go back and read the whole thread and note my previous comments ... do that and you will see where you've got me pigeon-holed incorrectly.

Get rid of it. Just another chance for important players to get injured. And while you’re at it get rid of the preseason comp too. Useless. Get rid of the exchange bench of four players too. Get back to good old Aussie rules!

Feel free to read my comments more carefully. I think you'll find our opinion on UFC and eSports are actually the same. (spoiler alert, I don't like them either). I just don't see the need to cast other peoples interest's as irrelevant because I'm not interested in them. Live and let live is the moral I guess.

Are you suggesting a statement cannot be arrogant because it is a "genuine personal opinion"? What planet am I on today lol

  • Pass time = verb.
  • Past time = adjective + noun.
  • Pastime = noun.

Doesn't bother me dc ... I now know of a few that are going along to AFLX and they are taking their children so you never know.

Same lot go to the Big bash and they tell me that it's like the Wiggles ... a new lot of mums and dads with young kids replace those who have moved on. Interesting evaluation.

I'm already fairly sure that I almost certainly am never going to like AFLX mainly because its not the real thing.  Same deal for cricket where test cricket is king to my eyes.

But AFLX might gain an audience.

i re-read macca's comments and i'm struggling to see where he cast other people's interests or opinions as irrelevant. he just gave his own personal opinion. i'm not just jumping in to support macca as we often (politely) disagree on a number of things

let's just move on.....enough said already

Surely "worthwhileness" is in the eye of the beholder, hence should one not like something considering it "unworthwhile" is not arrogance?

Of course it is possible - and team-wise.

There is stuff that we like and there's stuff that we dislike ... it would be a dull old world if we all liked the same stuff.  Music,  TV,  Movies,  Politics,  Religion and various other interests divides opinion as a matter of course.

I'm not sure that AFLX will gain an audience but there's a few things that I do know - there are any number of footy fans who love their footy no matter how it is served up.

And there are any number of footy fans who will never like AFLX but equally,  there will almost certainly be a percentage that will like AFLX - probably mostly juniors but the juniors need parents or a guardian to take them to the event.  So the adults will roll up by default.  Works the same in the Big Bash.

The VFL/AFL has always increased their overall interest through junior membership.  And unlike other sports,  the AFL make it very inexpensive for juniors.  Other sports should follow suit but not many do.  It's a great strategy and with AFLX,  they may have found another way to increase the overall interest. Ultimately,  they want the new money when those juniors become adults.

My first junior membership was ridiculously cheap and it got me into all the games ... so off I trekked to nearly every game.  After a year or so I was totally hooked in.  And I'll bet there are hundreds of thousands of similar stories to match my story.

Demonland. It's to AFLX like Keith Dunstan was to the (former) VFL with his (then) AFL, otherwise known as the Anti-Football League.

Keith Dunstan, gees, there's a throw back in time.
